Im going to show my ignorance on air brakes and ask for some education. I know what drums are but can only guess on the other terms and what they do.
  • Hoses = Airlines that connect that air brake system to the Chambers
  • Chambers = Air brake chamber that converts air pressure to linear motion to actuate the brakes
  • Slacks = Slack adjusters, connect the chambers to the arm that actuates the brake shoes in the drums

Man I wish air brakes would make their way down to the 4500/5500 size trucks. So powerful and you can make great use of the on-board air compressor to do other things, too.

Meh, having installed and having to work on them I'm not.
They're great...if you use them before you get stuck and use them under a certain speed on the hwy, (can't remember the actual speed but I think it was quite low but I could be wrong which is not unusual LOL)
Don't spin the begesus out of them if you do get stuck without having them deployed first at which time if you're stuck you remain stuck because they won't throw properly under the tires. If they remain unused for any amount of time they seize up, or at least they do in the ice/snow/salt belt and where else would you use them. They are not cheap to repair.
IMHO good ole tire chains are the best, a lot more work than flipping a switch but all good things are worth working for. My 2 cents worth, that's Canuk bucks btw not US :)
