Bush Hog 3008-2 - 540 or 1000 pto?

I just purchased this Bush Hog 3008-2. The PTO shaft was too long for me to attach to my tractor so I went to remove the shaft from the gear box and I think its 1000 pto? The tractor side is 540 but all of the shafts on the mower look to be 1000?

The gearboxes probably have 21 spline shafts on them regardless whether the input from the tractor is 540 or 1000 rpm. The main gearbox is gearing is going determine what the input speed is going to be. Most likely it is a 540 rpm mower.

Thank you! I noticed after posting that my batwing is the same way so I think you’re right.

Looks like a pretty solid bush hog. Agree, it's 540. I don't think I've ever seen a 1000 rpm bush hog.

They definitely make them in 1000 pto. The owners manual even specifies it can be 540 or 1000.

My 3008 has the fine spline on the gearboxes, but 540 on the input drive shaft.
They are really nice cutting bushhogs and well built. If you break a gearbox, they aren't cheap, but available! Mine is a semi-mount behind a 70 hp tractor.

I've had one for about 20 years. Semi-mount behind MF563. I've gone through grass that was easily hip high.

The side shift comes in really handy getting under trees and ditch edges.
Mine is a 540.
Only problem I've had is one of the outer gear boxes started to leak so bad that You couldn't keep up adding. I packed it full of grease and had no problems for 3 seasons now.

My 3008-2 is 540 and the pto spines are same as pictured. Except mine is more rusty.

There are MANY US implements that are 1000 RPM. In fact some tractors only have 1000 RPM PTO usually this is larger tractors.

Generally 540 only up to about 70 hp. 540/1000 on 70 to 150 hp. These will have 1 3/8" 1000 rpm 21 spline shafts.
Above about 125 hp, they will be 1000 rpm 20 spline 1 3/4" shafts in the USA

Mowers are ordered with 540 or 1000 rpm gearboxes from the manufacturer.

Well I got to test out the mower and its definitely 540! Even with dull blades the mower cut very well. I ran it on my 5067e John Deere and it had plenty of power, even for 4-5‘ tall invasive cogon grass.

I kind of wished I had ordered mine as a 1000RPM.
Nothing wrong with 540.

That’s the worst part - I’m too busy with keeping up on my own stuff I don’t have time to do any work for anyone else. I still save money from not having to hire someone. Plus I like having an arsenal yo do just about anything I need to.

My 3008 pto shaft slip clutch was pretty much seized. Suggest you slip test it if you haven’t already. I think many people forget to do it and they seize.
