Maybe a new truck Ford or Dodge?

I'd say you lucked by not getting one of those engines.

Someone I know has two 1500s with them, and has been talking about buying a spare engine.
Supposedly the early ones had a 15% failure rate, with the newer ones being much better, yet not without their issues.
15% failure rate?
That sounds a bit pessimistic.

Come on now…. one in every 6 or 7 engines failed?
Sounds like “urban myth”

Call it what you want, but the early ones were completely hit or miss. Most failures seems to have occurred early on, not 100,000 miles down the road, and those that didn't fail kept their owners on their toes.

But don't believe me. Google "Ecodiesel problems" and you'll probably have reading material for weeks.

Google ANY diesel and you’ll have reading material for weeks.
Hey, I’m a recovering Ford 6.4L owner…. ain nobody need to tell me about diesel problems.

A Wrangler JL Rubicon with the Ecodiesel is what I wanted. When doing my research I changed my mind - the guys who have them really, really, like them - an effortless driving experience - but all the other problems with the electronics was what changed my mind. NOT the Ecodiesel engine. (Spec'd the way I wanted, the list price was $71,000. That didn't help either.)

I’d like to see how the warranties compare between the Ram/Cummins and the Ford/Powerstroke.
In 2020 Ford’s “drivetrain” warranty only included the diesel engine. The rest of the truck was 3/36.
In 2020, Ram included the engine and the rest of the drivetrain in the drivetrain warranty.

Warranty’s aren’t free, they’re just prepaid maintenance insurance. Which is interesting when RAM’s price is still much less even with more warranty.

Also would be informative to see if Ford has any co-operative with Farm related discounts.
Ram and RamPack saved me a couple thousand dollars already on tires and a truck body. I haven’t even scratched the surface of it.

Ram is extremely farmer friendly both in the way their truck is set up and the Ram Pack.
