original post indicates ssdI think we're talking about defragging the old spinning disk hard drives, not SSD. I don't have any windows machines with SSD. I have one with a couple TB hard drives.

Original post indicates a 2019 laptop with a 1TB hard drive was the one he defragged, not the new on purchased around Thanksgiving that has the SSD.original post indicates ssd
Set the PC to notify only when there is an update and wait for your to tell it to update (at your convenience)One thing that Windows tends to do is run updates at the most inconvenient moments. If you had a computer that had been off the web for 2 years, then reconnected it to the web and turned it on, you can be sure it tried to slam you with updates.
I've been experimenting with a cell phone hotspot for a while. It works reasonably well, except I repeatedly get hit with Windows updates that just grinds my web access to a halt. I also got it preinstalled with WPS office (which I don't really use) that really hammers me.
While Windows doesn't seem to allow me to turn off updates, I can recognize several bad actors and kill the processes whenever I see them.
There is a list of changes to make when using Win 10 for privacy reasons. I don't even use a microsoft account when I install. If you haven't disabled a bunch of unnecessary start up programs in Win 10, I'd suggest you do so. It's easy and there are a bunch of YT videos on how to do it if you're not familiar with it.
I also use CCleaner and Spybot once a week to keep my ops system free from trackers, cookies, etc. It's amazing the amount of junk that clogs up your PC when you're on the web.
I have a buddy who had a slow laptop. Ran CCleaner and Spybot on it (took hours), and it ran like a new one.
There are also registry cleaners (within Win 10) that will clean up corrupted files, sometimes fix them, etc. Also YT vids on those. One is sfc /scannow that you run thru the admin function on your root/system directory. I do that once a month or so.
Doesn't work that way. You can only delay it for so long (about 35 days). Once you hit that delay limit, it's gonna download and install no matter what.Set the PC to notify only when there is an update and wait for your to tell it to update (at your convenience)
I don't either, but they're making that harder to do. Then again, I don't think it's possible to set up an Apple device without an account. There is a list of changes to make when using Win 10 for privacy reasons. I don't even use a microsoft account when I install.
So, after you throw Windows out of the window, what do you use instead?Instead of defragging Microsuck I heartily recommend defenestration
Mac Linux? They all have their problems IMO. Are you by the Naval Air Station? So, after you throw Windows out of the window, what do you use instead?
