Small Flail Mower: Betsco vs. Woodmaxx

Later this year I will be in the market for a small flail mower to use with my 1025R in maintaining an acre or so of my property that was cleared with a forestry mulcher recently. The two I have found are from Woodmaxx and Betsco. The Betsco is smaller, and cheaper. For use only a handful of times a year is brand a consideration I should concern myself with? I am open to other companies as well.. just don't want to purchase one from the "avoid at all costs" list!

Any specific reason you want to mow it with a flail instead of a zero turn now that it's been mulched?

I don’t have a zero turn, I do have a GT235. Saplings and brush regrowth I believe.

I have a 54” Woodmax on a 22 hp tractor. It’s about 4 years old and haven’t had any issues with it other than a couple broken knives from hitting rocks. Believe it’s quite a bit heavier than the advertised 410 lbs. Delivery carrier estimated 600 lbs after shipping crate removed.

I have a Betstco standard duty flail mower 48" with the hammer blades, I have not had any problems with it and cuts great,
I have a 25 Hp Subcompact tractor and it hadles it just fine, I have mowed grass to brush up to 3" with no problem.
I would buy it again.

Not sure I could afford to buy mine again. Think I paid about $1900, it’s now going for close to $2400

I've had a larger 84" Bestco HD model. It has been great for 2 tractors. Do buy the replacement belts when new as the manufacturer suggests. 1st time flail mower users typically burn up the belts putting the cutters into the dirt. I did
Do inspect the hammers annually. I found a cracked/split hammer and changed it out before it came apart this winter

Prices have gone up I payed $1200 shipped now the unit alone is over $1700.
Yes i bought an extra set of belts just in case they were a weird size and have them on had.

For my purposes why not use a brush hog? Cheaper and seem plentiful on the used market.

I have the HD 48' flail with hammers from Bestco 3 years in heavy bush and have not broken it, only issue was crappy belts which I replaced with kevlar.
