You Know You Are Old When

My first, and only house so far, a 1400 sq.ft. ranch with full basement, cost ~$32K in 1974, including the 3 acres of land. I am appalled at the prices of houses and land nowadays. My daughter and her husband built a house in FL a couple of years ago that was $600K. o_O
My first house was $18,900 in 1971. I built a new one for myself in 1996 for about $600,000 that is assessed at $2,600,000. and would probably sell for $3,500,000 today. Don't have any idea what the taxes are today but glad I don't still live there.

Christmas was great but I got yet another reminder that I’m getting old.

We had a bunch of younger nieces and nephews over Christmas Eve. I had Dean Martin and Bing Crosby Christmas songs going as background music.

My 18 year old niece asked “who is singing”?

I said “Bing Crosby, maybe the best singer ever”. She looks at me and says “who is that”.

OMG in their language.

After much discussion and and a brief survey, turns out NONE of the kids 18 or under had any clue whatsoever about Bing Crosby, Dean Martin or Frank Sinatra. Not a clue.

I am getting old!!!
Back during the covid fiasco, my wife and I were traveling the country, between Oklahoma and California. We spent a night in Grand Junction, CO and ate at an Italian restaurant attached to a nearby motel. Us and two, maybe three other couples I think is all that were in there, easy "social" distancing. Anyway, the food was good as was the background music, Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra and other Italian crooners. Soft enough to not be intrusive, but loud enough to hear. Real music!
Never did get covid, still have not, nor did we get the clot shot!

I know I'm old. My new driver's license picture doesn't look like me

And my favorite shoes don't have laces. :giggle:
Mine have laces...it just sounds like a trombone when tying them & briefs look like I sat on a Hershey bar.

There's always a few TV show worth watching, but I have a DVR for adds and I usually watch 1 movie a week. I pay $242.00 a month for it.

I know some off you have arthritis bad like me, I have it in every joint in my body, even my foot bones. The only place it doesn't hurt is my elbows.

I still go out and do what I have to do, just can't last as long as I used to.

The best part of being old is that you don't have to get up and go to work.

You know an old person's house by the newspaper in the driveway!
Problem is in my rural area, actually trying to get the drivway.

I've had subscriptions twice, but each time gave up because there was no rhyme or reason when I'd actually get it (along with some days it never showed up).

Thing is, I'm only a 25 minute drive from where the newspaper is printed.

I've talked to my neighbors, they seem to have the same issue as well.

Printed news seems to be dying due to expense and distribution costs.

That said, I know the gas stations that actually have them, and generally pick one up daily when I'm driving around for work.

The last time that I tried to watch television was about 10 years ago while staying in a rental. There was some movie I had never seen and which is supposed to be a classic. I watched for about 15 minutes and over half of that was commercials.
When another round of ads came on I shut the darned thing off. If they were that bad in the beginning I can imagine how they'd be during the second half of the show.
There are some pretty good shows on PBS.

News at 10PM is generally watched for 30 minutes to see what's going on locally (if they start off with the weather, you know you can turn it off early).

Because of my wife's job, we get a good deal from a network in Vermont that is free. Basically has everything on it per cable shows. There are some good series out there IMO, you just need to find them.

Speaking of PBS, one of the best things I ever saw on there was The History of Music in the USA. I think it was five 2 hour shows.

I wasn't going to record it, but I'm glad I did.
