I can't remember when the last time was that I changed a tire on the side of the road and I drive a lot worse roads at a lot higher speeds than most do. I did change a slow leak in my door yard two summers ago. About the time I have a flat it's usually because I need new tires.

Edit; I changed one last summer after picking up something in the road.

The rarely maintained gravel roads here in the Ozarks take their toll. 10 ply tires help a lot but even they are not immune. Sharp rocks, potholes and debris all work against your tires. Favorite so far was a rail road spike through the tread and out of the sidewall, second place goes to the spark plug my daughter found.
Have a few customers every year with on-road tires (4 ply) and flats after going to one of the creeks.

I really can't, either. And if I did get a flat tire I'd use the plug kit before switching to the spare.

Still, replacing a tire and wheel is still fully doable just like it used to be.

By the way, whats your average speed?

It depends on road conditions. Public roads I follow the speed limit +5, private gravel roads it's just as fast as I can hang on.

I don't think that qualifies as "faster than most".

Around here you'd be passed by most everybody. Someone going only 10 over would be highly suspected of being drunk, not having a licence, or involved in transporting drugs.

A good idea. The 7-lug was used on the HDPP option with F-250-like maximum loads. 6 lug wheels (the lugs were good enough) were not rated for those loads so by using a 7 lug wheel they kept idiots from mounting wheels too weak to carry the load.

I was looking at a Hundai Tucson Hybrid, and realized there's no space for a spare tire. There's only an optional goop/plug/air pump kit. I think this is the case for many modern hybrids and EV's.

I think its warranty includes road service. But I doubt anyone would come out 20 miles beyond the end of the pavement and 50 miles beyond the last gas station. Where there's no cell signal to call AAA anyway.

Looks like I'll keep the 99 Outback a few more years. And it did thoroughly destroy a tire from road debris on the freeway a few years ago. Good thing I had a spare. I can't imagine relying on just luck.

... appliances, the old ones lasted forever. But on the flip side, few want to keep a 40 year old range or refrigerator, when features and styles change more quickly than that. I'd be happy with a 20 year Fridge though, I've gotten 2 - 6 years each, out of the last three kitchen refrigerators.

Water heater in this 1943 house in town looks old, it doesn't have the usual over-pressure safety valve on top. (Anybody know how old that would make it?) It looked old when we bought the house in 1978. It works fine. I replaced the thermocouple once, no other issues.

That's odd. Not that there's not a second port for overpressure valve, but that the installer didn't tee one into the output line. I believe that's how those were usually installed, even back in the 1940's. Heck, it's how my boiler is installed today, with the blow-off teed into the common return, between circulator pumps and boiler.

I have a 150 with the HDPP package with 2592 CCC. Exceeds some 250’s.
