I disagree. We have to do something about it. We have to stop it from getting worse and try to reverse it.

That’s true.
Wish in one hand, sheet in the other. See which one gets filled first. ;)

There's a powerful club running the world and you and I ain't in it.

Seriously? What do you do when your hot water heating is leaking, walk away or shut off the main?

Seriously? Since I can fix it or have it fixed I take care of it.
Are you seriously comparing a broken water heater to the 30+ trillion national debt that keeps growing?

You have no say in the leadership in this country who continue to overspend?

Greece is the canary in the coal mine. I have not looked at these circumstances for a while-- so I am likely close on the facts but maybe not perfect. (correct me if you wish.)

The politicians there amassed a huge debt, kept spending, and used the age-old tactics of blaming their predecessors. Kept spending and spending.

Then it got really bad, huge debt, then ugly, and the entire economy almost imploded. The Greek politicians kept spending and blaming the predecessors. I believe it was the IMF that rushed in and acted as a financial backstop to prevent the implosion. And imposed austerity measures the Greek people very much disliked.

My take is the Greek politicians and American politicians are quite alike as humans, people, and political animals. So I presume if "their" politicians kept spending like drunken sailors, even in an extreme crisis, "ours" will do the same.

Except there is no IMF or entity large enough to act as a backstop for us.

You can feel it coming. It’ll happen suddenly, but its been building for quite some time now.
We aren’t free men anymore.

My grandfather said things were better when he was young.
My father said things were better when he was young.
I believe things were better when I was young.

So, on one hand, maybe it is a rite of passage.

But the difference is-- today we have a $34T debt. My dad and grandfather did not.

Seems the tax authorities have discovered electric vehicles. This article states that a trend is developing to add more taxes to EV owners. I was wondering when the movement would start to collect such fees in order to:
- build more charging stations,
- recoup the incentive provided to buy the EV in the first place.

As I contemplate an EV in California, I am mindful of "income based pricing." The more you earn, the higher rate you pay for electricity-- subsidizing the lower wage earners. So my neighbor could drive the same vehicle almost for free while I pay through the nose-- thanks! :D

The statistics presented are entirely misleading. $85/mo for a high wage earner? Surely that is only a base rate with usage fees added on top?

We pay +/- $300/mo for a CA property that is occupied less than half the time. We have LED lights and other energy saving measures but the monthly bill is still high in comparison. And that is before we contemplate owning an EV that needs to be charged.

From the article:
  • Above $180,000: $85/month
  • $69,000 - $180,000: $51/month
  • $28,000 - $69,000: $20/month
  • Less than $28,000: $15/month
