Recurrent, a firm that studies battery health, surveyed 15,000 EV drivers in March and found that 1.5% needed battery replacements, which range between $5,000 and $20,000. TO REPLACE THE BATTERY IN MY CAR

A Porsche Taycan owner would love a bargain like that.

When at the dealer, my girlfriend learned that the battery alone is something like $80K, and then a couple more for labor.

By the way, she did ask the salesman if he'd be willing to drive one the 160 miles to our place. He declined, already knowing it wouldn't make it all the way (he's been here so he knows the road).

Curious… are the roads privately maintained?

The one in my above post is county-maintained, and the counties do a great job. Unfortunately most of the roads around me are BLM (Federal government) and they do almost no road maintenance. If a road becomes impassable due to washouts or whatever then it is considered closed and the area becomes eligible for "wilderness" designation wherein no vehicles are allowed at all. This is a pic of a BLM road, taken about 30 miles south of the road in the above post:

Only a designated employee of the Federal Government is allowed to work on a BLM road. A private individual would be subject to arrest. That policy is a big change that came about some 30 years ago. Up till then, if a rancher or miner had an interest in an area (like a mining claim) he was allowed to maintain the road. No more.

Many of the trips I take into the Nevada outback I can travel 200 miles and not see another person or even another vehicle. God's country.

I can rarely go even 50 miles without seeing another vehicle...then again, that's on the main roads.

And the hills in the background looks a lot like what we have around here, in the EV free zone.

Today the leader in an EV truck for what TM Kubota's is needing, the Chevy EV Silverado truck might work unless it has to tow, with it's ~440 mile unladen range.

Sorry, but that wouldn't be even close for my needs. When I don't tow anything I have a TRX (with about the same range), primarily bought for when the weather gets ugly and the plow trucks are nowhere near yet.

It's somewhat rare that I go anywhere transporting only myself, or a few vehicle parts, and if the weather is bad (but not TRX bad) I take the Challenger GT AWD.

Ideally the weather is good and the roads dry, in which case I take the real Challenger - the one with a 6.2 - but unfortunately that doesn't happen often.

And like you, I have the Ram with a Cummins for towing, which is by far the one that gets the most miles on it. Which is sad in a way.

I would say I’m surprised but few things surprise me anymore.

If road isn’t maintained how does a person reach their mining claim or private land?

Monster truck, pack mules, winter snow cat?

Same MPG wise
For me, it is the Model Y then Kawasaki Z900RS @44 MPG and then the 3500 4x4 6 speed manual Cummins RAM at ~20MPG unloaded hiway.
It has by far the longest range before stopping for fuel.

Why is taking jobs away from truck drivers “good”?

Who's taking jobs from truck drivers? Baby boomers are dropping like flies and it's not that many young ones coming on from behind.

I know I have said this before, but I am an IDEAL candidate for an electric medium duty truck. The torque would be phenomenal and all my trips are less than 40 miles.

I have an ICE BMW X5 and a Jeep Rubicon for personal transportation.

If they build a Ram 5500 with electric that’ll pull more than my current Cummins will, without taxpayer subsidies, I’ll buy it. But I don’t think it’ll happen.

It should happen over the next 25 years more or less. I don't think many people realize how few EV makers exist in the size of the truck numbers that would need to be produced to make EV trucking. Even a thing it will happen but we're talking 2050 beyond if by then. The move to EVS will happen due to common Sense when it leaves more money in people's pockets to do so.

That T REX is a beast.
I really wanted a Trackhawk but even used was a bit more than I could budget.
