Looks like some of the potholes that frequently exist for weeks at a time in center city Philadelphia. You see one that could literally swallow a small car, and wonder how the city hasn't already seen and repaired it.

Living in a county north of the city, our local road crews rarely let a pothole exist beyond a few days. If you see one appear after an ice storm on Tuesday, you can usually bet good money it'll be filled before the weekend.

Des Moines metro area has a hot-line that residents can call to report a pothole. It sounds like something all high populated areas could use.

Around here the reason for country roads in poor condition is there is little funding for road maintenance, this keeps property taxes low. Partly because the long time property owners want to preserve the rural feeling, despite suburban homes going in everywhere.

Not to get political but there is presently a lot of federal funding to widen the interstates etc and I think some of this is filtering down to cities and counties.

he was going too fast didn’t had time to stop … it’s a new wash out it wasn’t there the day before.
I almost did that once years ago. We'd had about 7 inches of fresh powder snow and I was cuffing along down a major woods road when something didn't look right.
There was a big berm of gravel where the road used to be, a major culvert had blown out so they had dumped a load of gravel to block the road.
The sun shining on the fresh snow made it hard to notice. It could have been a "Dukes of Hazzard" moment.

And one gets a lot better mileage, but only holds 2 people.
