bought a big JD around 2005/2006 for work, I forget the model, but we pulled a 12-15" batwing with it. Even back then, it was made in Mexico, or at least a crapton of the parts were.

whatever model this is, I was very surprised Mexico was all over that thing.

My smaller JD870 was actually a yanmar according to all the yanmar labels on it. It was just painted green. Have no idea where it was made.

It worked great, i was just very surprised. When i purchased it i just thought it would have been built in USA. I was pretty naive i guess.

They have a huge plant in Mannheim, Germany and I used to haul the smaller JD's out of Horicon, Wisconsin.

With a little research is sounds like several of the JD compacts are still built by Yanmar but are assembled by JD in Georgia.. At one time the JD were Yanmar, Ford New Holland was Shubaura and later LS and the Case IH were Mitsubishi. Read at one time that all tractors under 100 hp were made overseas across all US brands.

All these jobs lost to overseas workers, to bad.

Long time and happy DE stock owner. But still sad to see all the job losses.

I can understand the Illinois decision. That state hates business. Surprised about Iowa.

Hate seeing this but labor being what it is I can't blame JD; like everyone else they have to compete.

To be clear, it seems people still think Yanmar builds JD’s smaller tractors. They don’t, but they do supply the engines.

There is a plant in the Quad Cities and they and some other plants went on strike a couple of years ago. Is it payback time?

In additon to the engines, I think Yanmar also supplies the transmissions, front and rear axles, electrics, and most of the body parts....but JD does - or did - assemble some components in the US.

I don't see why any of this latest move by JD is a problem for folks. JD switched over to Corporate Greed a long time ago. They were one of the first to do that back in the 1980 when they switched from making an excellent tractor at an affordable price to selling decent tractors at a high price. That's their decision and I respect it. Their stock has done very well even if their customers have not done as well.

The transmissions are made in the US. Tractor Time With Tim did a video of the plant in Georgia and I was surprised how many parts were made here. I won’t swear to it but I think Yanmar only supplies the engines.

I won't swear to it either, but the transmissions sure have similar specs to the older generation ones that Yanmar put into their own tractors.
It probably just comes down to how each person views making parts vs assembling parts.

Transmissions are made in Georgia right down the street from JD in the Kanzaki owned by Yanmar plant. 30% of the components are still supposed to be Yanmar.

The Unions sure showed John Deere who was boss.
Yep, unions, not corporations, killed the vast majority of US manufacturing jobs. The last manufacturing company I worked for paid 60% of the wages in benefits, that was totally unsustainable and the unions probed it when we shut down permanently
