Your last generator Maintenance Run

Modified is what my 1990 inverter is and it runs all my power tools and light boom but it will not run a Mikita or Dewalt cordless tool battery charger.

Haven't chased it down recently, but I know that Dewalt used to have a Table, that listed which chargers would tolerate generators, and which ones would not.

Some sensitive electronics like UPS systems “sometimes” have issues with the dirtier sine wave that 2 pole generators put out. That being said, ive run my house off of 2 pole generators since 1996….heck, i built my house off of a generator, and ive never had any issues.

My generac whole house is a 2 pole unit, so technically its somewhat dirty power. But while on the generator, all my electronics including 4 UPS systems have never had any issues.

My 22kw generac only cost $4500 back when new…..well, mine was free (but thats another story). I like inverter units made by Honda, but they just want too much for them. I was looking at one for use around property (like the quiet aspect), but bought a briggs 6.5KW for about $500 as opposed to the nearly $4000 honda wanted. Ill live with the noise. And it runs my skill saw and drill and wire feed welder just fine.

Interesting THD discussion.

I recall an article better part of 20(?) years ago in Homepower. Regular writer (Willy ____ ?), who was a industrial electrician. The high-end inverters (electronic box, not the modern gen) available then, had less THD than what Line Voltage often was, in many areas.... as tested with an Agilent power-analyzer.

The various comments exchanged here just now, have me wondering about the flywheel-effect of a larger generator. THD will matter, but I'm wondering about Rate of Change excursions (voltage, Freq, THD) with smaller generators, as the reason Some Things Die, while others Keep The Smoke Inside.....

We All Know.... These Things Run on Smoke !!!!

Northern CA may again have the opportunity for generator power as a possibility for power safety shutoff even announced due to high temps combined with wind.

Stockpile those (charged) Tesla batteries ! Those Santa Anna's (sp?), that's a New Thing, correct ?

Lived in SoCal for the entirety of the 80s (The best time) and the Santa Anna winds were always a thing then too.

INFORMATION: Y'all that have drills and other power tools that have
a chuck like the drill if it gets a little stiff when inserting drills etc spray
with some silicon spray will help to keep it free whellin

Checked my generator today (yellow light on) and it’s calling for an oil change. Have to do that Wednesday.

Did oil & filter changes on my wheel horse tonight. Greased everything up and sharpened the blades.
