Kubota L4400 4wd w/LA 703 FEL
The fronts on my Kubota L4400 are worn out. Low hours on them but 20 years. They are R-1s. 8.00x16. Goodyear. I want to replace them.

But where do you buy tractor tires? I have a dealership nearby who could do everything but I'm assuming that would be very expensive. Online it looks like shipping would be expensive.

On line, Goodyear R-1s in my size seem to run over $300 each. That's more than I'd prefer to spend.

I would assume I could do this work myself? I have easy access to tire pry bars etc. I use tubes on the front so setting the bead is no problem.

I've got amazon Prime and can get free shipping on what they offer but most of it is names I don't recognize and presumably from China.

A local auto tire place has replaced tubes for me in the past but I'm not sure they can get new tires for me. I can check of course.

Also, what brands to avoid. Carlisle which is now Carlstar or something like that pops up a lot. Not sure if they are Chinese or not. I see quite a few tires made in Mexico.

Any ideas/advice much appreciated.

New tires are expensive today, no getting around that, it's inflation. I just reshod one of my M9's with Trelleborg radials and 4 were north of 5 grand. I don't mount my own tires, I leave that up to my tire man and his equipment.

Interested as well as tires to stay away from. been needing tires for a while, but haven't pulled the trigger. I like inexpensive tires, but don't want cheap crap either. I hope they aren't all one in the same...
Until then, I'll run what I have, low tread but still very functional.

I recently found out that my J.D. dealer sells all parts BELOW Amazon prices, PLUS no need for shipping costs if I pick them up, PLUS no sales tax if for farm use. So do your homework. BTW: my experience with Chinese tubes is that they can not be patched because rubber cement dissolves them. I don't go there anymore for critical stuff. A friend bought some front tires for her J.D. . They were strapped together so tight they were deformed and difficult to mount and air up. But if you like a bumpy ride on a flat road, go for it !

I would give the same answer as previous. The large truck and heavy equipment tire shops don’t sell junk because most of their clients are repeat commercial customers. And they typically have access to a wide selection.

One of the tire manufacturers on Amazon is BKT. It is an Indian company. The tires are made in Mexico. They make OEM tires for John Deere and JCB. The ones I need are $135 each. Free delivery.

I'm considering ordering these and mounting them myself. If they turn out to be garbage then I'll be out less than a single Goodyear.

I will say this about Good Year Dura Torque R1 ag tires are a long lasting top of the line tire, I've also found Firestone ag tires to be good as well.

As silly as it sounds, I bought my last rear tire for my 8N Ford on-line from Walmart. Great price and free delivery.

BKT’s are fine. Good mid-grade tire. For what you are doing, they will work great.

I went to the local tire shop (20 yrs ago) and the R1 fronts were on site the next morning. If the wholesalers have them, they will be delivered asap. This has been my experience with all the tires I have bought. Decide what brand and tread pattern, check on price, check availability and order. My friend could not get the tires (size n/a) he wanted last month, back ordered, he picked a different brand. Seems to be the way now with a lot of things.

Don't ASSUME, ask.
The Kubota dealer in Virginia where I bought my backhoe from sourced good tires at lower prices than I could find anywhere else, including online. Three other Kubota dealers (2 in Virginia, one in Mississippi) I checked with wanted twice as much.

Out west here we have an excellent tire dealer - Les Schwab. I get all my truck and tractor tires from them.

Toyo for the truck and Goodyear or Firestone for the tractor.

You want to play the game and be safe - you will pay the price. One way or the other.

Never mounted any tractor tires and don't plan on it either. Again, I leave that up to my ag tire man and his equipment, but then my tractor tires are pretty large and heavy. He knows what he's doing and has the proper tools. I don't and candidly don't want to. I get my tires from him as well. I certainly don't mind paying him for the service at all.

I replaced all four 20 year old Titan R4s on the on the TC40DA last year. Went back with Titan R4s. Cost was $2,000 at a tire shop that is a Titan dealer. Figure they will last me as long as I need them. Tractor is now stored under cover so it should minimize weather damage.

"One of" your M9's?!?

I thought they all had tracks?

As to tractor tires, everything I've purchased in the last 12 years has been Carlisle brand. I never even looked to see if they're regional (I'm not terribly far from Carlisle PA), or more likely... they're made in China. But they seem to have every size, widely carried, and usually can be found at reasonable prices online. I mount my own, except once when purchasing with a new tractor, but my tractors are a heck of a lot smaller than what some of you guys are running.

If you are so inclined, next time I buy tires for either of my M9's, YOU can come and mount them. I'd like to see that actually. Gonna be buying another set this fall btw.
