A female engineer transferred from our New Jersey turbine engine plant to Dubuque IA... they sat her right across from me. Talk about complaining! She was world class. I ignored her. The second day, though, she stands up and explained that she is going to put change in her drawer... and keep count of it..... "and there better not be any of it missing." Then sits back down.

So every time she left her desk... I ADDED money: quarters, nickels, dimes. She never brought it up again.
As an engineer I try to avoid those types. Except I'm married to one. ;)

One of my many complaints, is people who say they will show up for a job or whatever, then don't show up or if they do, are quite late.
Also salesmen who know less about their product than I do!!
Ok, off my soapbox!
I'm, with you! I built my house myself 20 years ago and only contracted out the masonary work , but that was more than enough. I called the concrete finisher to do my driveway in May with a date of Sept 30 it had to be done because I had a blacktop co supposed to come Oct 1. Well the concrete guy showed up Sept 30 and ended up doing 50 yards of concrete in one day and then complained that it was too much work for one day. He finished his job but the black top people did not come until the middle of November. Both of them did a good job but would have been nice if they had been a little closer to scheduled time.

Tell that to my doctor.
My wife worked for a lawyer for several years and he went to the doctor and was kept waiting over two hours. He refused to pay the bill. Told the doctor his time was just as important as the doctors. Apparently the doctor got the message because he was never kept waiting like that again.

On Wednesday of last week, I had 37 new students start the program to finish their degrees and become doctors. I issued all 37 students new laptops with instructions on how to set them up in Microsoft Intune and direction to have that completed by this morning. Out of 37 students, 20 have not even started on this as of today. These are students who were accepted into one of the top medical programs in the nation and in 4 years, will be doctors. You would THINK they should be able to follow instructions by now....🤬 But noooooo, they will wait until they actually need to use them and then be knocking on my door because their laptop is inoperable for hours while it completes setup...

Every doctor I've know are late for everything in their lives. It's ingrained. If they say 10 am figure 10:15 if everything goes well. 10:30 if they get a call or the dog needs something
I'm not talking about my wife but I could be.

I could write a book on what we went through with our house build. We chose the builder (Local, CUSTOM Home Builder, 30 years in the area, very highly recommended) and were let down constantly. Very costly learning experience for my wife and I.

I am so fortunate to have been living only 10 miles away from where we built. Had we been in a different state, just relying on the builder to "do it right"... we'd have been hosed. I was on the job site almost daily... basically, became the project manager.

I had the exact same experience - well regarded custom builder. Only I lived an hour away..was on site as much as I could be, at one point every day basically acting as project manager as you describe. Glad it's over.

My wife says that is something I would do. I responded that I would probably have changed it all out for Canadian.
