Agreed on the conclusion, but because of the cost, not because of having to plug a cord in outdoors a few times per week. šŸ˜€
Should plug in every time you arrive.

My gas stations are all outdoors. Sometimes I need to get gas when it’s raining.
The EVSE is safe in the rain. The Tesla Wall Connector is outdoor rated.

I've had mixed luck with those types of chargers. They are in android phones as well.

I've found they are hit and miss. Especially if you have an otter box on the phone.
And there are a lot of cheap junk Qi charging pads being sold. Some work better than others, only way to know is to try.

The charging pads in my Model Y work well through my plastic case to an iPhone 11. Yes, I have nothing newer than an iPhone 11. Want to hear about my iPhone 7?

No, I would just keep calling you an ignorant fool.
You don’t own an EV so don’t have a clue about charging on the road.
We traveled from East Texas to Huntsville and back in our tesla with no issues.
My sister just drove 3 days in a row over 600 miles each day. The roads, traffic, and miles are the problem, not the opportunity nor time spent charging. Only about 1/4th the way into her trip.

My wife's car has one of those built in chargers. To activate, you push your phone down into a slot in the center console. The issue I have with it is the heat it generates. And since it's an enclosed spot, it doesn't have anywhere to go.

Last time I tried it, I had maybe a 3% gain on my battery, and the phone was scorching when it came out.

I haven't used in since.
The one in my Model Y gets a little warm but not a lot.

The one by my bedside stays fairly cool.

Have no idea about the relative charging rates between the two. Phone is ready by morning and that is all that matters.

I think the issue with the one in the car is because it enclosed the phone, there isn't anyplace to the heat to go.

The one we had in the bedroom worked decent, but it was particular about phone placement.

Wife would bump it on the middle of the night and her phone would stop charging.

It's a mix here. Probably more than half have a canopy.
I’d say, around 100.00% of gas stations have a canopy here. Your profile says Philly. I did a quick google satellite view of Philly. Every single gasoline station has a protective canopy. šŸ¤”
my sedan gets 12 mpg and my pickup truck gets 14 mpg. That all translates to more hours wasted standing next to a gas pump per year
Owning a sedan that gets 12mpg, is a very unusual, and for most of the general public, a very undesirable vehicle with such bad efficiency. Your other vehicle being a truck (doesn’t equate to a battery car capability) with rather poor 14 mpg is your other benchmark.
Your situation isn’t the norm, so it’s not a very valid comparison, anymore than someone saying you should simply trade in your 12 mpg sedan for 36 mpg car and cut your fueling time to 1/3’d the time

Oh I forgot, we need to only do things the way Grumpy does it or else we are wrong. ;) here is another link further reinforcing need to have way more charging infrastructure on the roads. So similar to the gas station model we have ......sorry Grumpy it's not the way you do things hmmmm EV Charging Infrastructure: Trends, Requirements & Costs
It even brings up inductive charging , which just yesterday grump insulated me for bringing it up. The same grump/trad brothers who constantly say we need to abandon the horse and buggy mentality , instantly get defensive and throw insults when someone suggests evolving battery vehicle technology, to ā€œcut the cordā€ and go cordless.
Funny how that works, here..

plugging a cord into the car once or twice per week, even outside.
You’re acting a bit like Grumpy here.
You’re making your argument, with the erroneous presumption that everyone has the same house, property layout, work, and driving schedule as you imagine for yourself.

Once a week plug in?
Try that working 12 hour shifts at a job that has a long distance drive.
