I've only drilled a few holes with it so far, but I'm very happy with the hydrualic conversion on my post hole digger. Surplus center sells splined shaft motors that attach to PTO shafts.

Any concerns about the long arms putting too much torque on the loader arms when in use? Is that even an issue with tractors having such a low GPM on the hydraulics? I have an old Ford auger very similar to yours I might convert like that.

Local fellow sells Wolverine SSQA to 3pt with hydraulic pto for $650-750.

Scrapyard I’ve sourced 3” x 10’ well drilling pipe. Course very tapered threads and much thicker wall where threaded. Don’t know about running reverse without pinning joints.

I’m in the same boat as the OP. Like an easier way to drill an occasional hole. Have an old Ford auger. That auger stump planer looks pretty cool too.

Nope. Look at the gpm and relief pressure of your tractor. An online calculator can tell you how much HP that works out to. It will be less than the PTO HP of the tractor. So if its spinning close to the rate of the PTO, and has less HP, the max steady state torque must be less.

If it gets stuck suddenly, there's less rotating mass than the PTO drive line, so the shock torque should be less too.
