I remember as a kid, all the old tractors had a speed scale/chart as part of the tachometer. You looked at what gear you were in and looked for where the tachometer needle was on the chart.

My Kubota L3800HST doesn't have one, which I assume most hydrostatic tractors don't. But what about a modern gear tractor and some of the various other gear/drive configurations? Do they still have a speed chart?

I guess knowing your exact speed is more of a field tractor requirement than a utility tractor one? But it would be nice to know for a lot of jobs that people do with a small tractor.
On my fender is a chart with the speeds available in each range at PTO rpm for the HST. Gives you a general sense how fast you are going.
I was surprised I could get up near full speed in mid range ~6mph with an old 9' haybine. Like a green rooster tail(not really), until i hit a heavy spot and the crimper plugged... That was the end of the speed trials in the thicker stuff.

Some newer electronic displays include an actual speedometer. The only time I pay attention to it is for accurate spraying.
On my previous tractor without a speedometer, I calculated the speed at several throttle and ranges at full hst pedal.

I spray and seed. But like you, I looked in my manual and it gives speeds for L,M,H and I calibrated my sprayer and seeder for L and M at PTO speed. Having the actual speed displayed would be sort of nice though.

My Toolcat has a axle sensor that allows it to have a digital speedo.

5145 has chart on fender
I use it to help deciding what range depending on where I am mowing

I had an app on my phone for a long time that showed my speed. But the ad started coming so frequently that it was useless. So I found this one on Google. You might try it.

My old Grey market kubota had one. It was in kilometers But at least I could do the conversions.

I have no idea about the travel speed of my Massey.

My "modern" (?) JD 870 has such a chart on the fender.

My 1959 Ford 641 has a Sherman (3 range ) transmission. It has a proofmeter showing speed with respect to selected range, gear and rpm.

Most gear drive tractors have chart/graph or a speed in gear indicator. My hydrostatic Kioti has a speedometer.

If you do a lot of spraying and depending on method of seeding this would be the way to go.

If your doing small acre plots surrounded by trees disregard my suggestion.

My 2 MF563s have a chart on the fender for the speed range in each gear.
However the speed chart and all the safety warning stickers have faded/worn badly.
Both 2007 model with a little over 700 hours each.
The MF stickers looks new, paint faded some even though they are inside the vast majority of time.
Just shows their priorities I guess.

My grandfather's Massey Ferguson 35 had the speed chart on the tachometer. I don't recall it being useful for work we used it for. That was over 50 years ago...really, am I that old?:)

I have a 1958 Ferguson TO-35 and it has the tach and speed deal, but doesn't work. They didn't become Massey Ferguson

until the following year even though they were owned by Massey. This tractor used to be my uncle's, which I used many

times when I was a teen.

My Kubota M6040 has readouts for travel speed, engine rpm and PTO rpm. The only one I consistently use - PTO rpm.
