Hospital had a garage sale. Hospital had shifted over to digital x-rays and electronic medical records, so no paper patient charts. I kept these chart storage cabinets and x-ray cart from going into the dumpster, nobody wanted them. They work great for storing stained glass.

I found this chandelier in someone's trash beside the road on "large items garbage day". The wiring was a little crumbly so I redid it at no cost with some left over wires I had. The glassware was perfect with no chips or cracks at all. I hung it up in my garage for a while and then sold it for $25 to my friendly antiques dealer. She sold it on for $100. Good for her!

Just scrapped 140# of clean aluminum extrusion, and 640# of insulated aluminum power lines, for $202. I didn't get a ver6 good price, but I needed it gone.

On craigslist there is a free section. It's good to keep an eye out for the "stuff" that makes its way there. It's also a great place to post things you want to get rid of. Facebook market place as well.

I'm not allowed to go to the dump anymore.....

I usually come back with more than I took!

I do amaze the family when something is needing to be fixed..... I say "wait a minute".... go out to the shop, come back with whatever is needed for the repair out of my "junk collection" as they call it.
Then they say: "of course dad had one..."
during cleapup week , i saw a kid wheeling a little dirt bike out of the garage, i said u throwing that , his dad said yeah its a pos and gave me some parts he had , took it home fixed the chain , fuel line puton marketplace sold for $600

NOT Mine. So, you think this guy found this in a dumpster, or did he steal it? It's a Speedy Moisture gauge, with reagent, scale, case, and all the accessories; and he is selling it as "something, no idea what it is, $50).View attachment 1966213View attachment 1966214

Speedy moisture tester? A blast from the past for me. I’ve used one but it’s been years ago. I used it when testing soil density.

FDOT still requires it, as a nuke gauge is "not accurate enough for soil moisture". Funny part, every testing guy is supposed to have one, but ask if he/she has the reagent, and all, and you likely are gonna get a blank stare.

My boss was always wanting to oven dry samples and apply a moisture correction when we took nukes. I hated it what’s the point of the nuke gauge if you don’t get instant results.

Pulled a box full of Delta Drive belts, jig saw blades, and two packs of sanding disks all new still in their boxes.

A Garmin GPS unit with lifetime map updates! It was complete with traffic cord and mount. Found alongside an Echo CS-400 chainsaw. Started on second pull! I too have been warned about bringing more home than I take!

Maybe it's Dollar General, or Walmart, but one of the big chain stores QC still (as of 2 or 3 years ago) required the old slide hammer cylinder sample, and speedy for moisture, and scaling ,and all that BS. I've seen it once or twice. I mean, I guess you have a fixed volume, you weigh it, subtract the accurate moisture %, and it's nothing but math to get a dry PCF... but as long as the nuke gauge guy doesn't test pumping material, they are accurate and fast.

I think the slide hammer is called a Drop Cone Pentrometer. I’ve done that more recently.

The Speedy was used in conjunction with a sand cone. You’d dig a small hole and weigh the dirt that came out. Then with a device that dumped sand in that hole you could weigh how much sand went in the hole. Then with a sand of known density the volume of the hole could be computed and Speedy would figure the moisture you’d get a pound per cubic foot answer. Then with last time I did that was about 1986 and it was for a Walmart.

They must be getting killed by Facebook. Does anyone even use Craigslist any more?

I stopped using Craigslist because it seemed like everybody else there was either a dealer or a scammer.

Same here. I'd had enough of kids playing games.

We have a dumpster site about 4 miles from home we use once a week. About a year ago there was a large antique hump back chest below a dumpster with the attendant lady standing there. She said it was too heavy to lift it up and in. She said a middle aged guy left it for trash and it belonged to his recently deceased father.
We looked inside and it was packed FULL of (drum roll...) baseball cards!!!!! All organized, many of them autographed, many in plastic with a rating seal. From what I could see a wide variety of years, some were very old.
Unfortunately we were in a car and in a hurry. If in my truck I would have loaded it and I'm not a collector.
The lady working there said she would call a collector she knew. To this day I think about I should have gone home, got the truck. Who knows what it was worth...thousands of cards.

That hurts, I remember When I was 10'ish my dad and grandfather would take me out to a line of dumpsters, the local mines were auctioning off huge amounts of tools, and what ever was not sold was pitched, we helped alleviate their loads. (Allegedly)
