IDIOT!

I have to admit I've kind of gotten to like the "always on" dash lights. GM vehicles at least have an indicator that shows if the headlights are on.
When my wife drove my previous truck she'd sometimes forget to turn on the headlights until it got almost dark, she was used to her car with auto headlights.

GM vehicles have had auto headlights (at least as an option) for 30-odd years. My old '95 Beretta had them.
On some automotive forums you still see rants from people who for some reason hate DRLs, so you can't please everyone.

That's why I STOPPED riding motorcycles back in the 80s. Too many drivers who were oblivious to them.
I had to dump one time because someone who was parked on the side of the road pulled out & did a U turn maybe 50 yards in front of me (with me going 55 or so).

???
Never heard of that. Glad I don't live in your neighborhood.
Its not my neighborhood only, its all across rural America and Canada. Do not ignore the facts out there. Read up on these issues and become aware. You could save young lives.

Another "Must" on newer GM Trucks, the Passenger Air Bag light is a Picture with a Line through it in Canada, US Regulations states it has to be Words (Passenger Air Bag Off) so we have to change the Lens
I can't be the only one who has trouble decyphering some of those cryptic symbols that replace lettering these days. I get that they want to standardize, but that seems to be an odd place to start when there's little standardization to the placement/operation of controls on vehicles.

Driving home this evening I pulled out too close for comfort in front of an SUV that was going about 50 MPH. The driver honked at me. I didn't see the SUV until I was already pulling out onto the road. It was late dusk, almost night time dark, the SUV was black, and had no lights on. Not even daytime driving lights. It was totally dark. How the hell was I supposed to see the vehicle? I coulda been T-boned. The only vehicle I could see on the road was way far away and I could only make out its lights so I thought I was safe. So the IDIOT driving the black SUV with no lights on honks at me because I pulled out too close. If I could have seen the vehicle I wouldn't have pulled out. What is wrong with people that drive with no lights at dusk? GRRR.
Eric
Or people that drive black vehicles with no lights as well. Never owned a black vehicle and don't plan on it either. If I did, living on a dirt road, I'd be washing it more than using it.

I really dislike the new LED headlights at night, they are blinding.

Good Evening Eric,

I see it all the time, and it never makes sense to me either ! I feel your frustration but until the police crack down on it, it probably won’t change anytime soon !
On my wife’s Honda CRV I leave the switch on Auto, and I never have to worry about it ! Unfortunately my Ford F150 doesn’t have that feature ! Just auto dimming on the high beams ! Fortunately you didn’t get hurt ! 🙏

I can argue the same about white vehicles in fog or snow. I was driving in near white-out conditions a few years ago when a propane delivery truck suddenly appeared out of the snow... no headlights so a black vehicle would have been easier to see.

At my age, I prefer not to drive at night anyway or during bad weather and most times I ride in the jump seat of my wife's Burb and let her motor.

I had the right of way as I emerged from an underpass. Someone on a nearby side street pulled out in front of me but managed to get stopped in time once she saw me. We were about eye to eye. Then she honked at me and gave me the evil eye.

I just don't understand why people have no common sense of the term RIGHT OF WAY.

The meaning should be drilled into everyone. I had a guy cut me off, he got out mad, saying he was the next person at the 4-way stop, not me. I asked him if there was such a thing as a LEFT OF WAY right for any driver? He was making a left while I was making a right down the road.

I never thought about taillights until people started mentioning it here on TBN. On crappy days (like today) I try to toss a glove over the sensor, making it think it's night time.

There are times when I do want the lights shut off. Backing out of the driveway with the lights reflecting off the garage door is a pain. There is a big hill at the mouth of my road with a house directly across. First thing in the morning I prefer to shut the lights off so that I am not lighting up their house while sitting at the stop sign, or blinding the drivers going past.

In areas that can get dust storms, it is pretty normal to pull off the road and stop till the storm passes and generally they say kill all the external lights.

There was (is?) at least one driving school around here that was teaching its students that at an equal 4-way stop, they should defer the right of way to the older driver. After a former student asked a question about that to us, I understood why it seemed as if so many older drivers around here were asserting a right of way based on seniority. Either that or they were just idiot drivers like everywhere else...😉

At 4 way stops, we were always taught first to arrive goes first. If 2 or more arrive simultaneously, then the one on the right as you go around the circle goes first. Not sure how many people know the second part or get it... Up here it's a race to see who goes last, which is another form of frustration...

Driving home to in-laws for Christmas I saw numerous idiots driving on the interstate without lights on at essentially dark:30. I lane changed in front of one way to close for comfort because I assumed anyone driving at 75 miles an hour down the interstate at dark would have their lights on.

instead of a glove on the sensor, why not just turn the headlights on? It works on my chevy

Then you have to remember to shut off. If you utilize the sensor they will shut off automatically.

I’m really hating all the automation, different levers doing different things. Having to remember which vehicle I’m in and whether the lights shutoff automatically or not. 4 different vehicles different brands different eras. It gets old. I think several weeks ago at 2 in morning I was going into work. Went to clear melted frost off window turned my turn signal on instead. Couple minutes later had blue lights flashing behind me. License plate lights burned out. But got to wonder did he see me make mistake with turn signal with it being bar closing time. Where I turned them on at said I was turning into a field

Because then I have to remember to turn them off... Something I haven't had to think about in over 4 years.
Then turn them back on every time I get back into the truck.

I know they will shut off then with a glove over them but I just turn them on, last week everyday was foggy so I turned them on everything I left the house.

Mine makes a ding ding ding when I leave them on then I turn them off.
