I have a Woods Quick Hitch, and would like to purchase a suitcase weight attachment for it. I have come to realize after researching these forums in the past, that all quick hitches aren’t created equal in terms of specs, compatibility etc… That said, does anyone know of a compatible suitcase weight attachment that you would recommend for the Woods TQH1 Quick Hitch? I just use the weights (6 total weights 90 lbs ea for 540 lbs total) during the snow season.

Thanks,

Wineguy

Following; I have a similar question.

Not quite, but just as effective, unless you need an implement, too.

That’s clever. I already own the suitcase weights, and thought about rigging up directly to the Quick Hitch similar to what you’ve done. That’s exactly what I did on my previous tractor. However, as I get older, I have made a number of dolly’s to enable me to remove & store all my implements w/o breaking my back lifting anything every time I need to remove.

You just need to build a frame that will hold your weights and hitch up.
A piece of channel with wings for the upright. (Wings needed for pin in top) Come down and attach to a frame that is high enough to catch side pins when unhitching. Then you can put in heavy angle to hold the suit case weights.
Did something similar with an i-beam. I'll get a picture when it warms a bit today.

I made my own "suitcase" weights out of concrete, but this is the kind of bracket you need. Mine is also a trailer receiver. Mine is made of a drawbar, receiver tube and flat bar.

Here's how mine mounts to the quick hitch I have. (Harbor Freight) You should be able to fab something up that works for you. This was all scrap I had laying around.

Be apprised that suitcase weights come in many configurations for attachment to various tractors as well. Certainly not 'one size fits all'.

Why on earth would they produce a product like that and not make it Quick Hitch compatible?

I didn't realize it wasn't. Don't have a Q-H myself. What is the problem - just curious ?

The distance between the lower and upper pins are 18" which is the 3 point standard. Quick Hitches are 15". Compatible implements have holes to put the upper pin at either dimension. Even if you drilled new holes in that device, the vertical plate would prevent the QH hook from getting under lowered pin. If you have a QH with an adjustable hook, you could use that implement, but it would have been just as easy to make it QH compatible.

I ended up pulling the trigger on the Titan Drawbar w/ suitcase weight bracket because I saw that it was on sale at Amazon. Hoping it will be compatible w/o any mods.

As far as Quick Hitch compatible - I don’t have the thread reference, but recall reading in the forum (I think here) that the Quick Hitches themselves don’t necessarily have standard uniform specs - If I recall, there was someone w/ a mower that attached to one brand of Quick Hitch w/ no issues, but had to modify his other one to make it work on another tractor.

I made a ballast box out of an old air compressor tank. QH compatible, although the top hook just grabbed a hole in the tank rather than a pin. Used it maybe once in the past decade. Just easier to leave whatever implement was last on, or grab the next implement. Only once did I need ballast & have space constraints not letting me use a normal implement.

Others may need the compact ballast box more often. But it's not worth the space to store it for me.
