I think that your instincts are on the money. It is likely the seal. I think if you poke around here, you will find a few threads on what the process is like on similar tractors. Seals tend to fail from age, dirt, or bearings, so when you jack it up, I would check the bearing play to see if it is loose, or failed.

Can you post a photo of the bolt that you are looking for? Did you check the manual that
@bmaverick posted to get the sizing? Diesels tend to really care about filtering and bleeding, so it might not hurt to clean the fuel system to the injectors just in case the previous owner got some gunk in there.
