They are bringing Jersey Mikes turkey hoagies for us.
going to sit outside on a very nice day.

sounding ominously successful for the LS, David can the peanut gallery start cheering? :giggle:

Buppies, sorry dinner out wasn't fun. Better luck next time, different place, different hour?

Good morning TBN!!
50 this morning and gloomy with .13 rain overnight.
Another day on the tractor yesterday.
Happy, nice work on the bridge, wondering whether you welded any support structure between the two pipes ?
It's funny you should mention this. I thought hard about welding the two together and decided if I were to do that the potential for taking out both tubes in another 100 year flood would greatly increase. I do think I am going to get rebar or angle and weld them together to basically build a cage for rubble in the center on both sides.
Then use more to create cages on the outside edge to catch rubble. That way I would hope the rebar would tear away. The whole thing is going to get slathered with a few yards of concrete as the final step.

Foreman stopped by for a little bit to make sure I wasn't slacking :)
Takoda.jpg

He got a bath at the end of the day!
Bridge 5.jpg

Very sloppy. I think I could drive the truck across in a pinch now.
Hoping to get a load of rip rap and gravel to tame the mud.

Bridge 6.jpg

Not paying enough attention to wear the clay was going. Closed the new side up by about 25% with clay and had to dig it back out.
Today will be R&R. We have flooding concerns tomorrow and one dry day in the forecast. Not really a good Spring project but, I will muddle through. Quite literally.

Time for a second cup
Everyone have a great and safe day!!

Good Morning Happy,
I do think I am going to get rebar or angle and weld them together to basically build a cage for rubble in the center on both sides.
I think that’s a great idea, it was just a passing thought on my part.
Fine job so far 🙏

Morning all, 62 going to 81 and sunny
Happy Mothers Day.

Got the corn "field" dug up and roots out. Easy with a tractor and Piranha bar :)
Now to till and plant, and wrap the wire around, once the clips show up.

Drive went all over on back roads, some nice areas around West chester etc.
No planters, but got to look at sneakers for wife.

We saw an old 356 Porsche off to the side of the road, with some help. I remember old car failures quite well, though only got stuck in mine once, and luckily only a few miles from home.

My father had a 356 convertable replica (speedster) for a number of years.

Be well,

60F and sunny @ 10:30, heading up to around 76F for the day's high.

Got front, back, and almost all of the east side mowed yesterday after I got back home:

IMG_3658 copy.jpg

Front was very tall and thick - highest parts 6" (or better) - mowed that with the deck set to 3.5".

East side and back not quite as bad, mowed those with the deck set at 3".

All of it will need gone over again later today once the grass has had a chance to dry out to spread the clumps.

Woman already on a tear this morning, out picking up sticks on the west side. That side has not been mowed so far this year.

I did manage to get about 1/2 the front cored a week or so ago when the ground was fairly moist.

On the agenda for today:

More juggling and rearranging things in the barn ... including the nearly empty 330 gallon IBC tote ... so I can unload the diesel I picked up yesterday. Need to get that done before the rains arrive when access will become a problem due to soft ground and mud.

Maybe get the west side mowed ... which will finally get the mowing caught up for the first time this year.

Check the underside of the deck on the Cub. I suspect it needs cleaned off, although it's not acting like it's real bad yet.

Ran out one tank while mowing yesterday so one of us will probably make a trip down to the corner for another gallons of gas.

Rustle up a tarp and get fence posts tarped before the raindrops start falling.

One of the more recent projects here was to get Wi-Fi access out in the shop. Since the building is 300+ feet away from the house and is concrete block construction with a steel overhead door the Wi-Fi signal was pretty much non-existent.

Didn't want to run hard wire due to the expense and time and effort involved and since wireless solutions have gotten cheap enough and offer good bandwidth decided to go that route. Went with a pair of TP-Link Outdoor CPE's with one mounted up at the shop and the other mounted on the northeast corner of the house ... the 710 model specifically:

IMG_3646 copy.jpg

These have a gigabit Ethernet connection, up to 867Mbps bandwidth, up to 15 kilometer range (clear line-of-sight) and operate in four different modes (dedicated private connection for connected equipment, connection+ WAP, etc.)

Set up was a piece of cake.

Attached an Apple Airport Extreme to the one up at the shop, which provides Wi-Fi inside the building plus another 3 gigabit ports for any hardwired equipment.

They don't come with J-Mounts ... but I was able to repurpose the old J-Mount from the Direct TV dish to mount the one up at the shop (glad I hung onto that ... ;) ) but had to pick up another J-Mount from Menards ($13) to mount the one down at the house.

Very configurable and thus far seems very reliable ... and will hopefully eliminate the annoying throttling on the cell phone data plans.

Need to get moving and get started on getting some things done.

Hope everyone is having a decent Sunday ... (y)

Happy Mothers Day

66°F and .20 inches rain.

A great day mowing yesterday and hope to continue on the Laupahoehoe end today once it dries.

Otherwise nothing big planned. That little girl still requires lots of attention during the day. She has figured out she can slip between the fence stiles. Didn’t go out once in her new crate but of course I woke up 3 times to check on her and give her opportunity to go out. Geesh.

Prayers for all
Be safe
Have a great day

I made the executive decision that today would be an energy conservation day. Rain coming on Friday according to the long range forecast, so that is when I will seed.
Monday is going to be an expen$ive day I think.
On the way to the shop I will grab a grand out of the bank.

   / Good morning!!!! #206,710
I could use some advice on a caulking/sealant product.
my shower head piping goes through a hole in the tile with quite a bit of
clearance, and no support all the way back to the connection.
I want to support the piping where it comes through the wall, and let that area take the
pressure when the showerhead is taken on and off, plus there's a bulky water filter up there too.
too much weight on an unsupported pipe. And of course the other end failed and had to be replaced.
I'd like to preserve the new part and I can't imagine this lasting all that long getting bonked back
and forth, no matter how careful I am.

so...plain silicon caulk? I'm wary of strong industrial adhesives in case the pipe does need
replacing in the future. I guess I'd like something medium strong that I can just squeeze in the hole
around the pipe and have it solidify, all hidden by chrome face plate.

this is a mechanical contact between tile/some backer board and a copper pipe.
whole tube of silicone caulk is two bucks. I'd waste 99 percent of it since likely years before I need it again.
and then those tubes are always hard as a rock.
which is why I buy small disposable quantities now.

does plain silicon caulk get hard enough or do I need some kind of hybrid?
something the next plumber will not swear at me because...

a rubber grommet that pushes in to grip the pipe might work too.
that would take careful measuring
hmmmm
I think two bucks worth of sealant is a cheap enough fix...
now Popgadget would be building that grommet to perfection in his deposition machine.
I don't think he can do flexible/rubber stuff but ?
