I bought this yesterday.
I don't have it at home yet. It's been sitting in that spot untouched for 26yrs. It's a propane unit. I didn't see an hour meter but will look.
It says 24Volts DC, I'm hoping the generator works as the engine starter. The engine has a hand crank but no starter.
Its old but hoping to use for home backup. Its 10kw 12.5kva with a Wakasha engine
I not a generator expert, I may need help as I go. Comments or suggestions welcome.
About what year?

1800 rpm👍🏻 Looks like it has a recently replaced water pump

Good Score! Keep us updated on progress please.

I agree the 1800 rpm is nice, it must gear up to get the 3600 rpm to the generator. If it runs a nice sized unit.

Looks like Innio is the company name now and still in business. What you bought is still their business, they say they build remote power generation as their specialty.

I didn’t see a closeup picture of the alternator nameplate

What makes you sure, it’s not an 1,800 rpm alternator? Just curious.

The radiator has a flange that looks like it may have had a hood or engine cover. I couldn't find a photo of one that has a cover, still searching.

I'll get a photo of that tag next week. I suspect its 1800rpm alternator. It looks like direct shaft to shaft drive.

I would like to muffle the sound. I knew a guy that ran an exhaust into a covered pit. It may run quiet enough as is. I could build a big doghouse with open sides.

That last photo is a photo of one i found on the internet just like mine. (Footnote above photo). That water pump does look new.
Thanks

My knowledge of generators is pretty limited, I know in theory they should spin 3600 rpm’s to give 60 cycle but I imagine there is a way to build them for half speed. Mine screams at 3600 rpm’s is why I say it’s nice to be half speed.

it depends on the "poles" in the generator head, 2 pole is 3600, 4 pole is 1800 etc.

I will get a photo of that other tag next trip out there. I'm betting its 4 pole 1800 rpm. Seems logical, I don't see any room for gearing. I'm learning, generators new to me.

I googled using littlbills post as food for knowledge.

Question:
Is a 1800 rpm generator 4 pole.

Yes, an 1800 rpm generator is typically a four-pole generator when producing 60 Hz power. Specifically, a 1800 rpm generator using a 4-pole alternator will generate 60 Hertz power. Conversely, a 3600 rpm generator will have two poles.

It says 1800rpm on the engine tag on the genset. Not that I didn't believe Littlebill ;)
Thinking about it 1800rpm will be a nice easy cruising speed.

Load that baby up, and it's going to be thirsty on propane.

It does have a good size fuel feed line and regulator. It appears that it was hard plumbed in with 1" iron pipe. I have two 100# tanks.
I wouldn't be bothered by filling one of those daily rotating the two tanks just during outages if need. Our outages are usually less than a day. I'm on a good size trunk line

That would seem to be a lot of fuel usage.
I could convert it to gasoline.
It seems propane would be more efficient.
Are the propane Generac systems thirsty?

I could never see a payback on the cost of an installed Generac system. Unless the grid fails for ###.

Well, no gasoline then 😵‍💫

The tag says 54.8 amps per term. If that's per terminal with two terminals at 240 volts that's 108 Amp max. So, this generator is basically a 100 Amp service.
Is that right?
I wouldn't go much past 80 percent of that.

I'll stick with propane. (y)
Converting my Hyster 8000# lift to propane worked out well.

I could see the generator working pretty hard on a cold winter day. Not using stove or dryer without turning the furnace off.

No. It’s single phase. 54.8 amps is it.
You don’t double the current number.

Ok, I need to do some math. The furnace and the coffee maker is all we really need.

On a240 generator you have two lines. Two terminals. Thats why I doubled Amperage x-2 two,,terminals.

I. Found this thread. Post#5

54.4 amps per leg x 115 volt = 6.25 KVA
or
54.4 amps x 230 volts = 12.5 KVA or with a power factor of 0.8 10KW.

2 pole generator needs 3600 rpm for 60 Hz power
4 pole generator needs 1800 rpm
6 pole generator needs 1200 rpm
8 pole generator needs 900 rpm
10 pole generator needs 720 rpm

The 10 pole used to be fairly common in the oil and gas processing plants often with several in parallel operation.
Using large inline 6, 8, 10 and even 12's and even a few V configure natural gas engines.
