I've always had problems with sinus/ear infections especially the past few years. Had a series of them in 2023 and lost much of my hearing in my right ear. Had several more in 2024. Took all kinds of antibiotics and steroids both of which caused other problems. And I've had several procedures on that ear to try to regain some hearing. Earlier this year my daughter convinced me to go to her chiropractor. She has had migraines since high school, about two a month for nearly twenty years of really bad ones. She was skeptical but a friend insisted that this guy could help her so she went to him. And since going to this guy she has not had a single migraine. So I started going to him even though I've always regarded them as witch doctors at best. Not a sinus infection this year so far instead of the usual four or five trips to the doctor.

BUT!!

My wife started having a rash on her arms about a year or so ago. Around the first of the year she finally went to a dermatologist to have it checked out. Not gonna go thru the whole story but she has developed an allergy caused by something contained in the COVID vaccine. Doctor said it had become very common. Said to never take another of that type vaccine. Anyway, when she started having these rashes I started changing our laundry detergent, fabric softener, etc.. Now everything we use is the Free and Clear type with no dyes, perfumes, or other additives.

I just realized this past week that my lack of sinus infections could be the result of the change in laundry supplies and not the chiropractor. Any idea?

Had chronic back pain from an injury for 22 years. Physio only worked for 2-4 hours.
Saw a chiropractor advert. Tried it as had nothing to loose. Over 10 weeks he straighted my spine so I no longer hurt. No pain felt strange after 22 years. Only took a couple of weeks to get used to NO PAIN AT ALL!!!
Life got WAY better.

@RSKY sorry about the ear infections and hearing loss. Sounds horrible.

Not to throw any shade on chiropractors, and I have many friends who are better for using their services, but while migraines and back pain sound in the wheelhouse of chiropractors, ear and skin issues seem a stretch.

Ear infections can be triggered by allergic / immune reactions to the point where I am not convinced that 100% of what gets labeled an ear infection is caused by a bacterium. The fact that your ear infection was not one and done, leads me to suspect some other root cause. I know lots of folks who had a bunch as kids and outgrew them, coincidentally (might be, might not be, coincidental ) outgrowing their allergies. A number of antibiotics, e.g. doxycycline, and penicillin are fairly potent anti-inflammatories, so the case is not cut and dry to me.

So, given the switch to Free-N-Clear, etc., I would be inclined to put both your wife's allergy issues and your ear issues down to the same cause, e.g. both of you reacting in different ways to something in the laundry.

Out of sheer curiosity, how are your allergies in general? Ever get hives as a kid? Asthma? Itchy eyes or skin? Anything like arthritis? How does your skin heal? (Big scars, or almost non-existent?)

All the best,

Peter

Who knows? I had allergies to liquid fabric softeners as a kid. I'd break out in hives. Took them a while to figure out what caused it. Once they did, we never used it again. It's been 60 years. But my wife and I have been using dryer sheets for 30 years with no issues.

I suppose you could go back to using the "old" detergents, etc... and find out. But if you're happy and infection free, why risk it?

I have gotten sinus infection at times I was using chemicals - particularly if there was also some airborne particulate associated. Never from just dust. Your chemical link may be real. I have found that Bayberry Bark tea is highly effective to the point that antibiotics are unneeded. You snort it through an inhaler. I usually keep some refrigerated for later episode use if needed.

I had to switch to free and clear laundry detergent years ago.

But mine was due to psoriasis. Took a bit, but I finally got my wife to quit using dryer sheets on our blankets and sheets as well.

I still have allergies, and it's progressed to having to use a inhaler occasionally. But I also live in the allergy capital, and an oak forest

Man, oaks were BAD this year! I have to start wearing a respirator when I mow or I'll be coughing for a couple hours afterwards.

Oak tree allergy? I guess I'm lucky, never knew that tree pollen could be an irritant.

I now wear my respiration when mowing, sawing, pressure washing as standard practice and it means no longer going the allergy pill route.

I guess it’s an ounce of prevention?

Oak trees and allergies??? First I have heard of it. What sort of Oak?
Privit on the other hand is the first thing a doctor will ask about with allergy problems.
