Anyone live near a windfarm?

I would rather have a windmill near me than a data center. If we had less data centers, we could get by with less power plants, windmills, and solar farms.

I also sent some emails to the Oklahoma Corporation Commission commissioners. This is the group that seems to do all the coordination and permitting for these projects. I spent some time rabbit holing on their website and I couldn't find anything suggesting the wind farm. It's starting to look like it swapped to solar and battery storage instead. Fingers crossed that I get a response with definitive answers.

I can't believe how this property purchase spun a 180. We were rolling along in unbelievable bliss, until I got a wild hair to Google something.

I'm going to be there tomorrow and Friday with one of my buddies. We're going to do some heavy snooping. Probably stop in at a local establishment and chat the locals to see what we can learn.
I wonder if Google is trying to "flood the zone"? ie: put out so much information it overloads everyone trying to nail down the details.

The problem is, we're in a "Manhattan Project" level of effort to stay in front of the Chinese in regards to harnessing AI. The Chinese know this. That's part of the reason they help push for the "Electrifying" of our economy. Ban gas appliances, push for electric vehicles etc.

I agree on Mr NIMBY in all of us and believe there is a place for most power generation styles. I don’t believe closing coal plants is correct nor do I believe that wind and solar will totally replace coal. I try to analyze things on the basis of what is best for that area and the people in that area. If I lived in an of coal mining I certainly wouldn’t be surprised to have a coal mine next door and would expect others in the area to feel the same way.
Well then I guess we agree. I am not naive enough to think wind and solar can power our world either. But coal is a dirty dinosaur, lets at least agree to use natural gas. Now if someone can just bring nuclear fusion online to create low cost/emissions hydrogen generation all of our problems will be solved.

Though I live in Enid, OK my ranch is about an hour west and I'm on a butte that looks over Fairview. I can see Vance AFB - where I work - and on good nights the lights of Wichita. It has had a charm that has been degraded by red lights on windmills flashing in unison. Sometimes, I get out before sunrise and the windmill lights are off and the charm returns. I hope to live long enough for this fraud to end and the lights to go out.

We have a wind farm going in by us it’s due to start being built in 2027. We refused to lease but a lot of the neighbors have signed on.
It’s sad the way it has divided the community. I’m all for property rights but the wind farm will make money for those that lease and decrease property values for all the folks around the wind farm.
Lots of places popping up for sale in the area. Folks are selling before the construction starts.
One of the bigger cash crop farms in the township is just west of us which is the view we have from our family room and deck. They have signed leases and have prime locations on their place for the windmills so I’m pretty certain our view is going to become windmills.
We figured we would be here till we died but that may well change. I may be wrong but I just can’t see myself getting used to the sight or sound of the windmills. It’s just me and the wife in this farmhouse so even though we never planned to move downsizing may be in our future.
Nothing lasts forever and change is always happening.

To understanding the impact of wind turbine installation you need to realize that the foundation is more significant than the turbine. The new largest turbines require 500 to 1000 yards of concrete for the foundation. The impact of placing 1000 tons of concrete in the ground is not small and requires a lot of construction activity.

There is a nuke plant around 11 - 12 miles south of my house that was put in service in 85 & 87. Com ed or constellation energy has been threatening to shut them down stating to expensive to operate.

I disagree on natural gas since that drives up home heating prices and is another fossil fuel along with if it is not safe to gave a gas stove in my home, why is it safe to have a generating station burning far more than my stove ever could?

Coal fired plants have their draw backs but I don’t believe abandoning them is the answer and it doesn’t jeopardize availability of natural gas for home owners and businesses for heat.

Curious on how hydrogen will play into things in the future.

I think we will have to agree to disagree.

I think we should utilize all types of power creation. If coal is nearby and it is VERY economical to use, burn coal. Windy areas should use wind and sunny areas should use solar. If a logging mill is near, burn biomass.
