Check the law in your area.
Towing with just a chain is illegal in most places.
BUT, on some roads and for short distances are legal but may also have restrictions.
When I worked at the Dealership we towed on occasion… not something I have seen in a very longtime.

Front vehicle pulls and rear vehicle stops… lots of hand signals from the tow driver and speed kept to a minimum with flags on the tow chain…

So... Ya'll are saying if I needed to I could put my gear drive DK45se into neutral and tow it for a distance. Never thought you could get away with that. I could see in a pinch though, maybe. Nah... I think I'd call a rollback.

I’ve pulled a few dead vehicles a short distance down the road on a chain. It sucks but it’s better than being stalled in the road. I would absolutely never pull a vehicle or a machine that’s already in a safe spot back into the road on a chain and I would never tow a tractor like that. Even a running tractor roads badly. Also if your tractor has hydraulic steering which most do you’ll likely have no steering without it running.

In Maryland the local Kubota people also went from $200 to $450. I do think they just don't want to be bothered picking up and delivering so they make the price high so you figure out something else.

That was for a BX2200 so not real large and the dealer is about 20 miles away.

The side, slide.... is not a method I recommend. Actually, I think this tractor was LEAVING the dealer. Got about a mile away. I don't know what happened but my wife passed it before me and warned me (so I had my camera ready)

There was truck/trailer in the median, facing almost the opposite direction. Don't know if this was new or being serviced. Probably some yahoo with a 4' spoiler on the back of their honda and a 'fart can' exhaust got impatient and whipped through traffic. (again, I don't know)

The apparent driver of the truck was standing in the median.

Just a bad day for someone.

Ok. This might be a little odd. I don't own a pickup or trailer yet and I need to get my tractor to the dealer. They used to pick it up and drop it off for $200 but they informed me they've been losing a bunch of money and have bumped up the fee to $450. Besides 'knowing someone' that I can bribe with a steak dinner what other options are there? I've found truck rentals for $90/day and a trailer rental for $75/day. That comes out cheaper but there is the time picking up both, at two different locations for both the tow there and back, and the drive time to and from the dealer.

Try a towing company and see what price they will offer.

If that yellow strap is what he was securing it with, that's all I need to know....

Dealer is 45 minutes away and this is only because I can't figure out why my hydraulic pump is leaking. New O-rings. No cracks in the line. Bolts torqued tight. Just can't figure it out and I need to get this tractor back to work.

Best suggestions I can offer up is to look into tow companies with a flat bed, or check out Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist to see if there's anybody in your area offering hauling services.

Another route you could try - is put a posting on UShip, you can put up requests for quote there - just be sure to correctly describe what you want.

Where in New England are you? I'm in MA - and I've used a guy a few times who's out of Manchester NH to do small freight hauling for me - I know the guy also transports cars , trucks, tractors - stuff like that - as well.

A friend regularly uses a roll back to take his antique trucks to shows. He says its cheaper than owning a trailer. My bet is that a roll back will be around $50.00 to $100.00 for a short trip like this.
