Fuel filter was changed and having problems bleeding air from fuel system. This is a late 3930 with the one piece fuel filter and water seperator, and also a fuel shut off solenoid. I am having trouble getting air out of the lines. I read that New Holland had directions on the process to purge air from this system, but can't find it online. Could someone walk me through this process if you will Thanks much.

Start with at least a 1/2 tank of fuel.
-Open the bleeder cap on the fuel filter housing until the air bubbles pretty much stop coming out. Close cap.
-Open the small bleeder screw on the injection pump. 5/16" wrench is needed. Let fuel bleed out until no air bubbles present. Try starting.
-If it doesn't fire at this point, you will need to bleed the injectors.
-With a 5/8" wrench, loosen the injector lines on each injector. Crank the engine over until you don't see air bubbles/foam coming out of injectors. Once solid stream of fuel is seen, tighten the lines and try starting.

If you keep seeing air in the system, you may have left a gasket on the fuel filter head and the new filter is not able to seal correctly.

Thank you, would I need the switch on to open the fuel shut off solenoid. I know it needs to be on for it to run, but does it need to be on to get fuel into the injection pump. I will check the filter to make sure it does not have an extra gasket on the filter.

I don't remember, but turn it to on and then there is no question.

I now have determined that the problem is more than likely to be the injection pump that needs to be rebuilt. I am sending the pump and injectors to D&C Diesel in Ky to have them rebuilt. While he has them I will be cleaning the tank and all lines plus a new filter assembly. I think that will solve the problem when it is all back on the tractor.
