My Massey Ferguson GC 1725 MB ...

My Kubota L5030 doesn't have a mark on the tachometer, but I can scroll through a menu to get the rear PTO RPM ... And an annoying red light that indicates that the PTO is engaged, I always see a red light on a dash as a "problem"!

Status - not too great so far. Beat up rental. No cruise control. But biggest issue is no float from top link, I think. The top link does not adjust, has set screws inserted where grease zerks used to be. Sheesh. A few photos below of three-point hitch configuration and a photo of cutter setup. With no float the tailwheel gouges and whole damn unit leaves the ground over uneven ground.

Help, please!

Looks like that black piece on the top point is supposed to pivot upward to give float. The bolt fastening it may be too tight to allow it. That intended pivot may be frozen from neglect. Shame to have to work on a rental, but maybe an easy fix. Lube it up and move it around.

Does it flex if you disconnect the top link? It looks like it is bottomed out in the photos.

WHen I put the cutter on the ground so that there is no strain on the top hitch, the black piece will only lift about an inch. I do not think it is working as designed. SOmething is configured incorrectly, or I am just ignorant of this type of connection.

I tried a few passes with the toplink disconnected but the tailwheel still gouges when you try to turn. Raising the lift forks just pulled the cutter towards me.

Put a block under the tailwheel. Does it pivot upward a lot more as you lower the arms?

Yes, it does.

Now have determined the bearings are shot in the tailwheel. With any weight on the wheel, when you try to turn it locks sideways and makes a gouge.

I'd call the rental yard and tell them the wheel bearings are shot to the point that the tail wheel is locked up making the cutter not useable without damaging something. Then I'd be asking if they are going to charge you for this rental. The rental yard shouldn't have let this go out like this, IMO.

Those wheel bearings are probably replaceable.

On the topic of RPM, my L2501HST was delivered by the dealership mechanic. He told me to run enough RPM to properly spin the hydrostatic pump and not to run at low RPM.

Good!

Bad! -- Tell them to bring over one that works and a guy to check it out before he leaves.
