Ugh. My wife couldn't stand that movie and I thought it depressing.
The movie has Steve McQueen and Dustin Hoffman and was based on the 1969 autobiography by the French convict Henri Charrière.
I didn't believe most of the movie happened the way Henri Charriere recounted.
I watched "A Beautiful Mind" a long time ago, and it uses a similar approach. It is "based on" a biography of a real guy, but the entire story line is fictionalized. If movies reflected reality, they would probably be boring.

I thought the movie was entertaining, but I found it strange that the hype pretended that it was a true story.

I recall an article about a movie being cast for Eleanor Roosevelt and they were going to use a black actress.

When questioned about how that would go over the director said most Americans won't know the difference.

Kind of like the rerun of Walking Tall.

That's what bugs me about the latest "Titanic". Love the idea of presenting the story with the benefit of AI to show things from 1912 looking brand new, but superimposing a fictional story over such a dramatically tragic true story just kills it for me.

Mixed feelings, there. It's sappy, but also kinda hard to hate any movie that features an extended scene of a young Kate Winslet lying nude on a couch, not to even mention opening with actual footage of the wreck, and then including a pretty well-detailed depiction of the actual sinking.

I finally just watched The Sixth Sense. Pretty good.
Funny story, they filmed that at my brother’s med school, P-COM, and he managed to accidentally walk through one of the scenes while they were filming. They had him sign a waver to allow them to use the scene with him in it, so of course he was all excited to go see the movie.

When we got to that scene, we couldn’t see him at all, since the camera operator had a really shallow depth of field set in their focus. My brother knew which pair of blurry legs walking through the back of the scene was him, but the rest of us couldn’t pick him out at all.

Well, I guess I'm about 40 years behind, but I just watched Lonesome Dove. Apparently Netflix has decided I like Robert Duvall westerns... and I guess it's right there.

Great miniseries, for anyone who hasn't already seen it. The effects are right out of "1989 made for TV" quality, but it's a great story with good characters played by excellent actors. Cast includes Robert Duvall, Tommy Lee Jones, Danny Glover, Diane Lane, Anjelica Huston, Steve Buscemi... and Ricky Schroder!

The only thing I didn't like was it wasn't longer, they could've made a standing show out of it, IMO.

If you haven't already watched these Robert Duvall movies, they are my favorites: Second Hand Lions, Open Range, and Broken Trail.

Yep... that's how "the algorithm" decided I liked Duvall, I'd already watched Open Range and Second Hand Lions in the past. But I don't recall Broken Trail, so thanks for that recommendation! I'll have to check it out.

One scene I always enjoyed:

My wife sometime ago bought shares in Angel Studios. Interesting company, as the tend to specialize in Christian movies.

For younger families who don't want to get bombarded with the traditional crap on TV (you know your old when you only heard 4 letter words on HBO LOL), it really isn't a bad platform because you aren't going to get bombarded with nudity / *** and vulgarity.

Watched this movie the other night. Wasn't too bad given the fact that I never heard of it.

I had to go back and see what *** was. xes spelled backwards LOL

I just watched a very good movie. "Six Tripple Eight" on Netflix?. True story set in world war II.

Second Hand Lions has some fun scenes but falls short of being a really good movie.
What really ruins it for me is the stupid ending funeral.
The wife and kids are aboot the worst casting I can think of not to mention the acting in that final scene.:poop:

Is this ending any better for you? It's the ending they didn't go with in the final version.

If I can really enjoy a movie for the majority of it's run time, sometimes the ending doesn't really ruin it for me.

That said, the ending of Clint Eastwood's Million Dollar Baby really ruined the whole movie for me. Instead of feel good, they went to life sucks LOL

EDIT- When the do audience testing on films, and they change the original content to maximize a better response, does the content really matter? ;)

From the same film studio I mentioned, a biography of sorts, read up on the man and the film seemed pretty true to life (more of a documentary if anything else). Hit the nail on the head with some Churches IMO.

I liked the movie. And yeah, the ending wasn't very good, but not so bad as to undo an otherwise good movie.

It'd be fun to have M. Knight Shayamalan just make a film that's a medly of alternate "M. Knight" endings to every popular movie. That dude knows how to put a twist on an ending! :p
