The first 9 hours of digging. It looks small, but that's a lot of trips in and out.

I missed getting pictures of most of the second day's digging because I had to go to my grand daughter's birthday party, but suffice it to say that it was just more trips and the pond just got bigger and bigger. On the third day of digging, I had to go to work, so I also didn't get a lot of photos. The dozer ran to the end of the time I had paid for (24 hours) and then I took over the job to finish the cleanup. Here is my tractor parked in the bottom of the pond. I still have several hundred yards of digging and shaping to do. More pictures will follow tomorrow.

Jim,

Thanks for sharing those pics, they're amazing!!!

You sure have a mighty fine hole there /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I remember what it looked like when I was there and how Steph and I would watch the snakes swimming around in there. But now you got yourself a really nice fishing spot.

What are your plans for it? You gonna stock it with fish? What type of structure are you going to use, if any? What about a dock or a pier?

Sorry for all the questions, I get so excited when I see a new pond being dug /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Eddie

PS
Glad to hear your feeling better so quickly!!!!!

Gosh Jim,

Where did you get that little toy NH? It almost looks real except that it's so tiny.

Oh yes... sandy beach, peninsula out into middle of pond, rock waterfalls, and more. News at 11:00... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Yep, Jim, just what are you going to put in that hole? It sure doesn't look likely for us to have any rain to fill it. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

My grandson suggested I could put in a racetrack for RC cars. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif He got a RC Hummer for Christmas. Anybody ever see RC tractors? /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Here's a picture of the peninsula that extends out into the pond. I plan to build up several terraces lined with rock and filled with about 1' of sand for wading etc... when/if the elusive rain finally comes. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

99% of the water will come down the chute on the left side. I'm going to shape the sides into more of a "V" and cover the bottom with rock. On the right side, I plan to collect the water that runs off the hillside and let it drop over a small rock waterfall.

Here I am, shaving the loose soil off the sides of the dam. The dozer pushed up the silt so it could dry when he started running out of time. That left the sides loaded with lots of loose dirt that when dry is easy to push down to the bottom and haul off with my tractor. It makes my job much easier and after I finish, the sides look very nice.
