Mixing used oil with diesel in the tractor.

"you would think that the tankers arriving there in Valdez - could come loaded with refined petroleum products. They could off-load these products and then take on crude oil." The tankers come in with sea water in them for ballast. We actually have a refinery that makes low sulfur diesel, jet...

Mixing used oil with diesel in the tractor.

That's what I thought. I've heard of it. Just trying to brainstorm ideas to cut costs. Our heating oil has tripled just by itself. In the winter the community's electricity is powered by diesel, so the electric bills are going to be tripled too this winter if not 4X's.

Mixing used oil with diesel in the tractor.

Anyone mixing used oil in with their diesel to cut the cost? I have old hydraulic and motor oil that I can filter and maybe mix in a quart per five gallons of diesel. We went to $6.40 a gallon today and if I project out the increases to winter plowing season, it looks like I might be shoveling...

Getting ripped off at the pump

I made the mistake of NOT stopping the other day. Sign said $4.44 for diesel. Someone hit the 4 instead of the $5.44 it should have been.

    Members in their 70s?

71 this year. Not much I still can't do. Vitamin D, daily. Get away from the TV. Remember that if your retired that the job will be there tomorrow too. You don't have to accomplish everything at once. Pace yourself. Exercise!! Most of my meat is harvested by myself. Moose, bear, hares, shrimp...

    Seafoam for real?

I have a 24' Sea Sport with a 454 for the ocean that is on the water 6 months a year. I always add Sea Foam to the tanks on every other fill up. It always starts. A couple ounces in the chain saws, brush cutter, ATV, snowmachine, and everything else gets it. It is the one additive that I use...

Another roof ? How do I get lichens off roof?

Up here in Alaska moss is the problem. There is a product called Moss Out that may work on that too. It contains a large amount of Iron.

Would a zero turn be faster than a B2601?

Why not add a towable gang mower. An 8' one would probably cut down the time. My uncle used one years ago on his 5 acres. Should be a lot less than buying a $6000 mower.

    High fuel cost and wood

Received my monthly fuel oil bill yesterday. $4.57 a gallon for heating oil. Diesel in $5.56.

How far and high can I throw snow?

Aware of that! Diesel is $4.50 a gallon and our electric bills have doubled up here. Some of the native villages are at more than $10 a gallon.

How far and high can I throw snow?

Jims1025 that sounds good for the optimal blowing stuff. If I push everything back and then back into it, I might be able to go higher with the snow stacking.

How far and high can I throw snow?

Main drive is 100 yards by 25' wide. But the area I push into is about 300' x 100'. Then a little parking area about 30' x 30'. I don't need that much plowed area, but I have lost about 50% of the push area stacking snow so far.
