    40x60 pole barn advice

If/when we build a shop, we'll likely duplicate this set up for heating and cooling. Air to water heat pump, combined with solar should make for cheap heating & cooling. And no need to keep filling a fuel tank.

I hope I can prevent this from happening to other operators.

My dad was a volunteer firefighter for a couple decades. One of his favorite phrases was/is "How could this incident have been prevented..." I've said it to myself quite a few times before doing something that could get me explaining the situation to the person in a white coat with a clipboard :D

    Missing computer company's

This guy collects old CPUs, and writes quite a bit about the history of old processors/systems. Some pretty neat stuff. https://www.cpushack.com/

Which fitting should I dislodge first? (Dirty Hands WS)

A trick: put a shop vac in the hydraulic fill hole (not deep enough to touch the fluid 😀 ), and turn it on. When you open a line, it will suck air through and keep the fluid from dripping everywhere.

    Low compression on 535

Yep, head has to come off. There's only one guy in town that does engine machine work. Does good work, but keeps weird hours and never answers his phone. Also subscribes to the phrase "In God we trust. All others pay cash" 😀 Anyone have a preference on kits? Of course not buying anything...

    Low compression on 535

This is the tractor from this thread. Another backhoe model number decode request I checked the compression on it, and it's not good. 150/150/210. So that's why it won't start  His story is that it started to overheat and bubble over, then he drove it to its parking spot, where it...

Have you ever thought about changing the central air conditioner?

If you have a central furnace (natural gas/propane), with central AC on top of it, there are now furnaces (or even just the AC side) that can be replaced with a heat pump. That lets you keep the central ducting, and use the heat pump for both heating and cooling, with the gas heat as a backup...

Another backhoe model number decode request

Thanks. Now I just need to get the head off and access the damage  Hopefully it doesn't need an entire in frame rebuild. Has anyone ever used the harbor freight diesel compression tester in the injector holes on this engine?

Another backhoe model number decode request

Good call on the location. There's a tag on the pedestal with the controls. It was painted over with everything else  😀 It says 19-551, which appears to be a 755. The main boom ram sinks over the course of a day, and the dipper ram looks awfully wet, so I'll probably try to...

Another backhoe model number decode request

Next question: the backhoe attachment has 748P cast in it. I'm only seeing these model numbers for the backhoe: 750, 753, 755. Is there a decoder that points to which one I actually have? I did order a complete set of manuals from ebay.

Another backhoe model number decode request

Awesome. Thanks for that. Follow up question: Apparently the manuals I have are for a different, older, machine. Any idea how relevant they are to this machine? I should probably start looking for a set specific to this model.

Another backhoe model number decode request

Just picked up this Ford backhoe for $1k, and am trying to double check what it is. Top of the transmission behind the starter has: Model: DD211F Production code:8C10B Serial: C567803 Engine: D5NN6015G (I think) This decoder only has a single spot for a letter at the start of the model...

    Chemtrails

XKCD (y) https://xkcd.com/966/ (Be sure to hover your mouse over the image to get the alt-text, for a continuation of the joke) The other good one is about the moon landings. "We never landed on the moon!" "You believe in the moon???"

    In-Floor Heating for a Shop & Greenhouse - Considerations ?

If and when we get to the point of building a big shop, I'm going to take a good look at a geothermal heat pump system. Preferably with a ground loop, but even an outside air unit can be used to heat water to go into the slab. Operating cost should be lower than any fossil fuel, and even less...

remove crimped fuse holder from block.

Nearly all terminals have a spring hook like this one does. It's just a matter of finding something thin enough to slide next to the terminal to depress it. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01M9HGW7Q/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
