From DOE themselvesThe EPA is allowing Illinois and a bunch of other states to sell E15 year-round now. I'm not happy about it and pumps have new stickers on them. The sticker I read last night said not to run E15 in anything pre-2001.
Yep, follow the money. And no mention of fewer mpg with that crap.View attachment 3524729
Really intelligent people writing for Iowa. E15 contains 50% more ethanol than E10. Not 5%.
And after all this time, nobody noticed and corrected it? Done on purpose to fool the sheep?
Good point. I think it is more likely ignorance than purposeful. Many people don't understand that a 5 percentage point change is not the same thing as a 5% change.View attachment 3524729

I burn more of it to go the same distance when compared to gasoline without ethanol. I'm not talking about a tablespoon more, I'm talking about a 10% reduction in real world mileage. This was in a 2008 Hyundai Accent driving the same route week after week for comparison. I'm going to burn a few tanks of straight gas in my 2018 Mazda for comparison and report back. I'm currently getting 40mpg with E10 summer blend.Ethanol has been added to 'gasoline' because it burns cooler and thus reduces nitrous oxide emissions that have to be cleaned up by your catalytic converter. With less EGR needed to make it cook better, your engine is no longer adding lots of unburned fuel to heat the converter up to operating temperatures and keep it there.
Keep in your mind that the emissions controls in your vehicles are not trying to be more efficient, they are reducing oxides of nitrogen which is a component of 'smog'.
And this is a Clean Air Act Federal requirement.
Unfortunately, the eyhanol als tends to dissolve 'o' rings and seals that were not formulated for the stuff. AND, left alone in small engine carburetors, it dissolves the aluminum & zinc parts over time. That's the white schmutz you find in the carb float boal. ! Like it ?. Love it ? You want some of it ?
I worked with these systems at GM. BTW: the 'learning time' to recognize new fuel mixtures is about the same time as it takes to recover from a dead or disconnected battery. If you want even more 'boost', toss a few mothballs into your gas tank !
That’s an interesting view you have there. I don’t think “ethanol has been added to gasoline because, it burns cooler”. Pretty sure it’s mandated for other political reasons,Ethanol has been added to 'gasoline' because it burns cooler and thus reduces nitrous oxide emissions that have to be cleaned up by your catalytic converter.
