    Good morning!!!!

Good Morning. 61°, probably the high for the day. Grey, but not raining, although that is supposed to change later. Yesterday’s trip went well, people that I never flew before, but were very nice. Invited us to lunch at their facility where they had a catered BBQ. We had a great lunch and...

    Good morning!!!!

On a Bell 206L the engine, transmission and main rotor are mounted on a subframe that apparently departed the fuselage as a unit, tearing off the tail rotor and boom in the process. There is some sort of vibration damping mechanism involved as well. My guess (a WAG at best) is that there was a...

    Good morning!!!!

When I was around 12 or so, I convinced my mom that I needed an oxy-acetylene torch. So the first welding processes that I learned were brazing and fusion welding with the torch. It really upped my game at motorizing my bicycle.

Assuming that that’s the case, the Milwaukee holder for 8 M18 batteries used 350 grams of filament. A 1kg roll costs $17 delivered, so about $6. I would take your bet (and your $1).

Good Morning 40° out there with a high of 45 under a grey sky spitting rain. Not going to change much for the next few days. Yesterday was another day of puttering, cleaning up and organizing. It’s not a fast process, but everything ends up where it belongs this way. Spent some time designing...

Primeweld customer service is amazing. I emailed them asking if there was a PDF for the wall chart that came with the MIG 285. They sent me one, but it had both sides on one image. Good Morning 39° with a high of 50 predicted. Grey outside now, rain coming late in the day and continuing for the next few days at least. I don’t think that I got to check in yesterday, the shed delivery got me on my feet early. FAA physical went well, I’m good for the next six months, got...

    Good morning!!!!

I have two basic water trap filters in series followed by a desiccant drier, and a motor guard filter after that. The key is to have them significantly downstream of the compressor so the air has cooled by the time it gets to them. I had a refrigerated dryer in my old shop, but I keep this one...

Good Morning 35° with a high of 40 on tap under a clear sky. No rain for the next couple of days. A welcome change. Yesterday started in the shop, did some drawings and 3D printing, cleaned and organized, really looking forward to the shed coming tomorrow, that will be the home for all the...

    Good morning!!!!

I’ve got the TIG225, MIG285 and the CUT60. When I bought the TIG225 the 325 was not available. I would have gotten that if it was available then, but it’s a newer model. It goes higher and lower in current and has a higher duty cycle. I would also suggest the cooler and liquid cooled torch.

Agreed about the mesh. I put a mesh system that covers the buildings a couple of years ago, and it works great. I used ASUS Zen hardware, three nodes with wired backhaul. I just added a Genmon to my standby after seeing GRS’s posts, it’s amazingly capable for donorware software running on a Raspberry PI. The downside is that it isn’t plug and play, but it’s not rocket science either. I would recommend it to anyone that isn’t intimidated by a bit of technology...

Support structures are very much a thing in 3D printing. They are required to support any overhang. Good Morning 27° with a high of 33, clear sky and a brisk wind. Yesterday I did make good progress on the electronics bench, to put it in perspective, this is after about 3 hours of work. I will resume the effort today, the actual impetus was a place to put the new 3D printer when it...

    Good morning!!!!

How about the trailer dealer? They would likely have a lot more experience than the ford dealer, and you might be able to negotiate it into the sale of a trailer.
  113. P

    Good morning!!!!

Good Morning 37° and foggy this morning. High near 50 and might see the sun this afternoon. No real surprises yesterday, I managed to give away my old 3D printer, a pair of utility speakers (that I built about 40 years ago), a large fresnel lens from a rear projection TV, some rack cases, and a...

For small air cooled engines, I would say the Honda GX series. Wisconsin singles like the AEN, or the Kohler cast iron opposed twins were quite good also.

    Good morning!!!!

Good Morning 26° and grey outside, high in the middle 30’s We got less than 2” of snow last night, too much to ignore, but not much effort to clean up. Yesterday moved at a nice pace, seems like I got something accomplished. I got a call while at breakfast that the quartz top was ready to...

    Good morning!!!!

Good Morning 23° and grey outside. High not much over freezing and snow tonight according to the prognosticators. Most things were still ice covered at noon, but sun is working on it. Yesterday went by at a leisurely pace. Fireplace cleaned out and reloaded, shop cleanup continued, spent...

    Good morning!!!!

Good Morning. 32° and sunny with a high in the middle 30’s. The sun should help melt the ice. Yesterday, I made real progress in the shop, tweaking my thread cutting setup, verifying my newfound knowledge from YouTube university. Cleaned up and organized quite a bit. It’s amazing what a...

    Good morning!!!!

Good Morning 32° and completely glazed over. No snow, just ice. It’s treacherous to walk on any hard surface out there. Even the grass surfaces are tricky. Yesterday’s major project was to repair the audio system in the RAV4. It has the JBL audio option, which is a bit different from the norm...

    Good morning!!!!

Good Morning 37° and breezy this morning. Probably the high for the day. Yesterday I woke up to a sheet of ice over everything. It I’d warm enough to be able to clear it later in the day, otherwise the lane would have become a Luge run as the temperatures dipped. Hopefully today’s sun, wind and...

    Good morning!!!!

Good evening. Today started out about 40, didn’t change much, it’s 36 now. Slow moving day, did a little preparation for tomorrow’s trip to Orlando, hoping to be back before the snow. Played catchup with some paperwork, chased the stick vacuum around the old folks home to get the large tufts...

Good Morning 25° under a clear sky, high in the upper 30’s predicted. We finally got the shed ordered yesterday, and took the Prius to the car wash while we were in Quakertown. It’s a good old fashioned car wash where they hand scrub the wheels, completely towel dry, and clean all the glass...

Good Morning 35° headed to 45 under fair skies. Yesterday I pretty much accomplished nothing but consummate the deal on the Lexus. It is now titled and registered to me, and inspected. It was originally taken to the dealer to get inspected, but when it got there, they couldn’t do an official...

Sort of… We’re talking about them taking my 320 in trade on a 500. They also want to install their own tank monitor rather than use mine. Their price for gas isn’t bad, it will come down to the details of the tank swap.

It’s interesting that only one of our three kids took advantage of it. His aviation experience, (corporate, charter and major airline) was a good career move for him. (Along with an MBA). He tried along with me to get his siblings interested, even just as another note in the resume, but they...

All of the hardware is presently black, so I’ve been “directed” to make it black. Brass did cross my mind, it’s a lot easier to work with, and I don’t have to get it powder coated.
  139. P

    Good morning!!!!

Good Morning. Day started at 20°, should reach upper 30’s. First day above freezing in at least a week. Yesterday was a slow moving day, helped youngest son fit some metal thresholds, that involved drilling and countersinking them as well. We set up a crude fixture in the Bridgeport to...
  140. P

    Good morning!!!!

Yes there is a Z axis. The sequence is that it drops down to sense the height of the surface by seeing the drive motor current rise as it stalls, raises to .150”, initiates a pilot arc, then lowers to the .060” cut height. The tricky timing is in the delay from when it lowers to cut height to...

Good Morning It’s 10° and won’t quite see 30 today under a clear sky. Yesterday went by pretty quickly. I did some experimenting with the plasma table, trying to better understand the piercing process and its various settings, and how they influence the process. One of the challenges of...

Good Morning 17° when I woke up this morning, 25° now and forecast to get to 31. All under a clear blue sky. Yesterday was another day of tinkering, did some cleanup, did some experimenting with plasma table settings, cleaned up some, then went out to do some errands. Met some friends for...

    Good morning!!!!

Good Morning According to the Davis, it’s 0.3°, the Tempest says 0.7°, at least they’re both on the right side of 0! Clear and sunny with a forecast high of 25. Yesterday started with taking Zoe to the vet for a checkup, the training was apparent, she was much easier to control with all the...

    Good morning!!!!

A closed loop system will cold soak the heat sink, weather it’s buried loops or a loop in a drilled and grouted well, as compared to an open loop system where the water is drawn from one well and returned to the aquifer via a second well. The open loop system has the entire aquifer as a heat...
  148. P

    Good morning!!!!

I’m not sure that I’d be happy with a heater of any description that could not reach my set point, just sayin…. I’ve done many a service call for that complaint. I still know what a watch is, but rarely have to reference one any more.
  149. P

    Good morning!!!!

    I did. It showed 3.0
  150. P

    Good morning!!!!

Good morning Davis says it is 2.8°, Tempest says 3°. Either way it’s cold. Looks like continued clear with a high around 15 for today. Yesterday was mostly in the shop, I reworked the drain on the plasma table. I had increased the size of the drain opening, and pressed a relief for bar sink...

    Good morning!!!!

Good Morning 11° under a clear sky, forecast is for that to double. Yesterday started out grey and ended up white. I did get the mounting plates center punched on the excavator, the tool worked perfectly. Got the whole mount clamped up to see how it goes together. Of course we had to take...
  152. P

    Good morning!!!!

Guilty as charged. That part was acetal (Delrin) though, as it’s just for alignment. I do keep HDPE for bushings. Anchorlube is awesome, have a few bottles scattered around the shop.

    Good morning!!!!

Good Morning 34° which is the high for today, it start a slow decline into the low 20’s by tomorrow morning, with snow starting around noon. If the talking heads are not just bread and milk salesmen, we could get as much as 8”. Won’t know the truth until tomorrow. Yesterday I did get a...

    Good morning!!!!

I have a Davis Vantage 2 pro weather station that has been up on a pole in the field for decades. I have had to perform maintenance on it, I have replaced the wind speed sensor and tipping bucket assembly, as well as a solar cell and many lithium backup batteries. I’m not sure how old it is, but...

    Good morning!!!!

Good Morning 33° and dreary looking, high of 40 and rain this afternoon. Then the temps take a deep dive, and we get snow, somewhere between a dusting and a foot depending on who you listen to. I think it will definitely be a plowable event for us though. Yesterday was a productive day in the...

    Good morning!!!!

I ran that 20 inches per minute, not sure what the overall cut time was, maybe 2 minutes? The part is about 16 inches long. 1/4” cuts at 60”, 20ga is like 130”.

    Good morning!!!!

Good Morning 18° and clear. High of 38 under clear skies. Got about an inch or so of snow yesterday afternoon through the evening. More coming tomorrow night or Sunday. Yesterday started with a service call for geothermal no heat. Issue turned out to be a burnt wire for the blower motor. Was...

    Good morning!!!!

I had the same discussion with my supplier, but with a different outcome. I get ultra low sulphur heating oil, and add biocide, lubricity and cold flow additives to make it suitable for my common rail diesels that require the lubricity. The other additives might not be necessary, but they cause...

Good Morning 16° with a high in the upper 20’s forecast. Yesterday’s training went well. The students were very complimentary of the experience. We made one long day of it, had lunch delivered, and never really took an extended break, just enough to stretch our legs, get a drink or use the...

Good Morning 19° out there with a high of 30 predicted. You wouldn’t know it from under these warm covers. Yesterday started with a class for Zoe, one on one with us and the trainer. Of course, it’s more about trying us than her. She clearly understands what’s expected, but lets distractions...

    Good morning!!!!

The immobilizer and the remote fob are programmed separately. As far as I know, you can’t program the immobilizer (the transponder chip in the key) without a bidirectional connection to the OBD2 port, either with a scan tool or dealer hardware.
  165. P

    Good morning!!!!

When my intense efforts to get grass growing late in the season had sprinklers hitting the windows and leaving water spots from the hard water after a few weeks of exposure, I tried to wash the windows with Windex. The water spots just laughed at it. Then I tried CLR, which took them right off...
  166. P

    Good morning!!!!

Good Morning 27° with a high of 40 planned for today. High overcast, but fair skies. Yesterday started in the shop, I sure made a lot of metal chips drilling all those holes. I think that I have everything swept up, did quite a bit of tidying in the process. My mechanical contractor buddy...
  167. P

    Good morning!!!!

Locksmiths are usually cheaper than dealers. If you already have a key cut that works the locks, most auto repair shops have the ability to program the immobilizer with their scanner. I just did some for a Nissan Sentra for a friend. It’s a shame you’re not nearby, be a good excuse for a visit….
  168. P

    Good morning!!!!

Not a hole saw per se, but annular cutter. They do have a spring loaded pin to locate the hole and also pushes the slug out. I center punched my layout so I could feel the center pin drop into the punch mark before turning on the magnet. You could not use them in a hand held drill, they are...
  169. P

    Good morning!!!!

Nope. I made clamps that just drop into them out of HF bar clamps and vice grip type c clamps. I am sure that there will be times when I bolt things to the table, but I can use through bolts and nuts, or drill and tap for a specific project.
  170. P

    Good morning!!!!

Good Morning 29° and mostly clear, high of 38 is predicted. Yesterday’s pancakes and snow removal went as planned. Except for the part where I went into the shop to get the tractor and it was 10° colder than the thermostat was set for. So after parking the tractor, I looked into that. First...

Good Morning It’s 17° and windy, winds and temperature are both on the rise and heading for 30. Nice and comfy in the old folks home, this morning, we are really enjoying the radiant heat, as we never had it before. Yesterday was another day cleaning up and puttering in the shop. Laid...

    Good morning!!!!

I usually set a pipe in concrete with a flange about 4” above grade. Then a mating flange with the post welded to it. The flanges are bolted together with 1/4” grade 3 bolts. That provides a failure point that’s easily fixed when it gets hit.
  177. P

    Good morning!!!!

Good Morning 21° with a high of 27 under mostly sunny skies and winds in the teens. Another day to find inside chores to keep you occupied. Yesterday’s breakfast was good. Afterwards wife and I went to HD, she was looking for heated gloves, and unsurprisingly, they were sold out. After that...

    Good morning!!!!

I use the “Float” position on the loader control, that seems to provide a good balance of down pressure and steering. Also have 1000lb ballast box on 3Pt I have a urethane cutting edge on a 96” blade that does a good job of getting down to blacktop on a seal coated, paved lane. As far as...

    Good morning!!!!

Good evening 25° and descending. Today started with a service call on a heat pump for my pal the mechanical contractor. He is swamped with this cold spell. We did meet up for lunch at Mission BBQ though. I made it home in time to take care of a few chores before the band showed up for the...

Good Morning. 28° and clear, high of 35 and chance of snow showers later. Yesterday morning was in the house going through closets and cleaning up the mess that we made while son and DIL were gone, so it looks like we accomplished something instead of making piles of trash. Cleaned the...

    Good morning!!!!

Good Morning It’s 32° under a clear sky with a high of 38 predicted. Yesterday was another day of going through stuff in the house, lots of old pictures and interesting things. I think that I might bring one of the apothecary drawer units over and fill it with DVD and BluRay discs, but the...
