That gerotor pump is referred to as a charge pump. Pumps oil into the main drive pump under pressure to refill what is lost during normal operation. And if you get pump cover on 180 degrees from correct it reverses the oil flow.

MTD and JD products don't tend to work well with standard off the shelf belts.. Need OEM or OEM style belts due to the unique cut angle and width.

I had the big 1-1/2 hp version and outside of the glazing did a fine quick job. The first few wheels were fine, but they changed suppliers, or materials or something and it was like the epoxy that they use to mold them preventing the necessary shearing to keep the abrasive sharp.

I like my Oregon/Burrking 760 mower blade sharpener with the ceramic belts, but for the $2500 price tag may not be for everybody. Used an Oregon 12" wheel blade grinder before that, but had issues with wheel glazing when sharpening JD blades.

Impact works great for removal. For installation and to properly torque, removing one spark plug and stuffing the cylinder full of rope works to hold the engine from turning when tightening. Actually replaced a worn clutch on the brother in laws SLT 1554 today.
