    Hydraulic Fluid Recommendations??

I worked in the lube oil processing area for 31 years but never with actual formulations, but we were privy to the research going on in formulation areas. Woodchuck Problem

Had not heard about carrots in a hav-a-hart trap. I've used a half cantaloupe. This was to trap one that gets underneath the pool decking sometimes. Seldom causes a problem, but I just don't like them that close. It's right in my raspberry patch in and out of the hole and has easy access to...

I apparently don't understand oil weights

Exactly. That's why it's very important to get a small "x" # in a xw30 or xw40. A tad fuel credit for xw30 vs. xw40, but it's on the order of 1-2%. Main thing is to get a small first # which allows the oil pump to "grab" the oil instantaneously vs. sitting there "warming" the oil by not...

Absolutely the BEST thing that I did was to replace grease gun tips with LockNload or LockNlube. Don't recall which or something like them. Different ones of each of the 2 guns. Needed both recently. Could not get the one to "lock" in place. Got the other one, and it did.

    Testing clutch at a dealer

I apparently don't understand oil weights

Well, the upper outside temps on the charts do not make sense otherwise, unless they're for air cooled engines. All oils in water cooled engines run at around 212-230 F, being cooled by coolant at 190 F thermostat setting. VW TDIs, millions of them, run around with 5w30 in their crankcases...

Oil & Fuel Hydraulic and Motor oil questions for 2210D

Nope 0w30 or 5w30 diesel oil will not harm a tractor's engine, AND it will give a tad reduction in fuel usage. Plus, it'll give your top end more protection in getting pressurized oil to it almost instantly vs. probably a few seconds for something like 15w40, particularly in cold weather.

I apparently don't understand oil weights

Here's the chart that shows what temperatures the lower # of oil viscosity is measured at. It's a rotating viscometer that measures in cP (centipoise or poise) vs. the upper (operating temperature) value that is measured in cS (centistokes) @ 100 C (212 F).
  72. RalphVa

I apparently don't understand oil weights

Wrong. The lower temperature oil rating is not determined at room temperature. It's at various temperatures, generally very cold and is different for 0w, 5w, 10w, 15w. 5w30 is NOT 5 weight oil. It is 5w at its measured low (cold) temperature but is 30w at operating temperature of 212 F. And...

I apparently don't understand oil weights

Think all those charts with upper max temps are for air cooled engines. All water cooled engines operate at the cooling water temperature set by thermostat, usually about 190 F; so maximum operating temperature for all oils is about 200 F (allowing about 10 F across the metal to the water)...

    Fuel prices around the world.

Lots of conversions needed to get to $/gallon. Typically, it's been near $7/gallon in Italy and near $5/gallon in other European countries, for gasoline. Diesel prices are generally lower, nearer what we pay, but they charge a big tax on diesel vehicles.

    Finally, a generator powered EV?

A turbo diesel is about 33% efficient, about the same as a dino fuel powered boiler generating steam. Most of our tractors are not turbo, probably about 20% less, e.g. about 27%. You can get more efficiency by powering a gas turbine and then generating steam from its exhaust, more like 67%...
