I’m now part of the club! 2009 ToolCat with seemingly all of the options. Was previously owned by two farmers and I was told that it was never used for spreading salt. High hours (4300) but appears to be very well-maintained. I noticed that each of the filters had the hours handwritten to...
Has anyone used a PTO adapter with a 3-point brush cutter? I already have a Deere MX-5, so I was thinking that the path of least resistance was to use that on my Toolcat with an adapter.
Does the Brushcat shoot any material out the front of the machine? Is that common for skid steer brush cutters?
I rented a disc mulcher in the past and didn’t realize how much material gets ejected from the front. I dented a car with gravel and broke two windows in my house.
Yes, I'm asking about the 90" finish mower. Is it so much more productive that I should just rent a brush cutter for the initial cut and then maintain with the finish mower?
I'm buying a D-series on Monday and need to find a brush cutter. I have 10 acres to cut and most of it is wild fields. Can a 90" mower go through 7-foot teasels and grass, if the speed is reduced? Or does it make more sense to get a proper brush cutter?
I’m not looking for any precision. Anything that can indicate to me that the ground is not flat would be useful. Maybe something as simple as pushing a cart or wagon.
I have 10 acres of of five-foot growth. There are quite a few holes in the ground from when the property was a tree farm. Is there some kind of attachment (DIY or manufactured) that I can put on the bucket to act as a lookout for holes and really uneven terrain?
I need to selectively cut down about fifty trees or so. Most are between six and eight inches. I’ve rented a high-flow CTL with mulching head in the past and have also hired a 250hp machine to thin out about 10 acres of growth. All I need now is a bit of surgical mulching so that I can brush hog...
What are the meaningful differences between the UW56 and 5600? All I see is marketing material stating how the machine was completely reimagined. But it looks pretty much the same and the feature list isn't all that different from the 5600.
The largest cab ever is not important. I just want to fit a comfortable buddy seat in it. I'm happy to look into the Zetors, as they are likely even less money.
To clarify, the mulching is already done. Now I need to break up what's left from mulching, similar to what something like this does: Valentini Tractor Forestry Tillers -- Iowa Farm Equipment
Not "real" farming. Just hobby farming and land management. I'm planting 10 acres of sunflowers this year, but I'll likely do that with my 50hp Foton, since it may take some time to find a new machine. The reason for the high-horsepower is because I'd like to run a forestry tiller, to pulverize...
Mostly cutting grass, moving dirt, and hanging out with one of the kids. A Toolcat would be ideal, but it may be some time before I get one of those. In the meantime I was wondering if there is a two-place tractor.
Yeah, it's just for a few small projects that need near-term attention. The Toolcat is the long-term purchase; may be a year or two before that happens.
I have a some small projects that can be completed in a few months with a small tractor. I don't see a need to hold on to a small tractor long-term, as I'm holding out for a Bobcat Toolcat. It doesn't make sense to rent something, because I can only work on the projects for a couple hours a day...
I mean a Hydro Ax 411 or 511. I’ve seen some for $15,000. These were made in the 90’s. They are ~150hp, 10-ton machines. They look like loaders, but with really big/wide tires.
Can a Hydro Ax with shearing head be used to push trees over with the root ball, rather than cutting them and then dealing with stump? I’m wondering how sturdy the shearing head is and whether it can be used to push and pull a tree instead of just cutting it.
Can a the wheel-loader equivalent of a 963 be as effective at pushing and piling as an actual 963? Specifically, I'm talking about a Cat 950 with root rake and clamps.
I have ten acres of lightly wooded land that needs clearing. I've tried a disk mulcher, drum mulcher and just popping the trees one by one. The result is not what I'm looking for. I recently saw a Cat 963 smooth out a couple acres without even trying to hard.
What is the going rate for a...
In terms of ruggedness, reliability, and build quality, how does the Toolcat compare to the v417/v518 and the T770 track loader? Is the Toolcat any easier to work on (maintenance and minor repairs) than the other two types of Bobcat machines?
I just sold my Kubota L4330 yesterday, so I am actively looking for the replacement machine. It's a tough choice between the v417/v519 and 5600/5610. Used 5610 machines are really hard to find. The v519 is looking out of my budget, so if I want the SSQA, then I guess I will focus on the v417...
Yeah, I've started to settle on searching for a v519.
Out of curiosity, how different was your old v417 from the v518?
And how much more work (in percentage terms) can you get done with your v518 when compared to your Toolcat?
oh, so the V518 coupler only supports a few V518-specific attachments.
I’ll be looking for a grapple, toothed bucket, stump bucket, forks, and post driver.
Can you reverse your auxiliary hydraulics to run a PTO-tiller in reverse?
25hp is substantial. I’m wondering how noticeable the loss of power is on the V519.
Does your SSQA adapter allow you to detach/attach non-hydraulic attachments from inside the cab?
It appears that the V518 Versahandler has a 100hp engine. To anyone who has operated both, does the older V518 seem more capable than the V519, which only has 74hp?
Do both models have the power Bob-tach system for attachments?
@Xfaxman Have you ever tried unloading a 20’ shipping container...
Problem solved: The contact point between the battery cable and chassis was corroded and prevented a solid ground. I replaced the old cable and then ground down the contact area on the chassis with a rotary rasp. No problems with the battery; it was checked at Auto Zone.
Come to think about it, the problem doesn't even get to the starter. When I turn the key after not touching it for a few hours, I see dashboard lights for a couple seconds. And then they go away for good and nothing happens when I turn the key.
I took the battery out and had it tested at the auto parts store. The battery passed the load tests, so I guess that isn't the issue. Now to start running down other issues.
Are there easy ways to test the starter and solenoid?
@CobyRupert I don't need glow plugs now. I was just referring to the various lights that were turning on.
Regarding the removal of the battery, this is what someone else on OrangeTractorTalks said about the same issue:
@jmc It was measured across the positive terminal and the pin on the loader for ground. My tractor has a cab and air and that is making removal of the battery far more complicated than it should be. It's definitely not a matter of just taking out the tie downs.
I have a 2006 L4330 HSTC. I used the tractor for a couple hours yesterday and then parked it. There were no issues with starting the tractor yesterday. This morning, I noticed a degradation of electrical components. First I was able to get the glow plug to turn on, but not crank the starter. The...
@Xfaxman How does the G-series handle Tier 4 without regen?
Have you noticed any quality/reliability differences between the F and G series?
Do you notice the additional 5 horsepower of the G?
@Xfaxman Adding another update to this thread. A few months after starting this thread in 2019, I bought a ~1997 Deere 755, mostly for mowing. I sold that at the end of the summer and then bought a Kubota L4330 GST. Much of my 14 acres is very uneven and I feel really tippy in all but the few...
@Xfaxman If you have operated both a compact wheel loader and standard wheel loader, how does the stability compare to your telehandler? How has maintenance been on your machine? I had been eyeing a ground-engaging telehandler for a couple years, but they have have always been outside of my budget.
Excellent feedback. Thanks everyone. I've decided to fill the holes with a dozer first. There are hundreds of holes, since the property was previously a tree farm.
The property does not have hills and is not steep. It just oddly jagged, with a lot of overgrowth. Sometimes the holes have filled...
I think you all may have a good point with just getting the holes filled/pushed over with a dozer. I was planning on filling them with the tractor, but I don't feel comfortable running across all of the terrain with the tractor.
To answer the question: I'm sure it's operator-error. The tractor...
I have a Kubota L4330 with 6-inch wheel spacers and ag tires. I thought for sure this arrangement would provide the level of stability I was looking for, but it doesn't. I live on 14 acres of rolling/bumpy land that was previously a tree farm. There are holes all over the place and the land is...
Yeah, just waiting on the jurisdictional determination from the US Army Corps of Engineers. The wetlands should not fall under their jurisdiction, so pond-building is high on the to-do list. It might take a month or so, since it's 4 acres of wetlands. In the meantime, I would like to fill these...
I have a few hundred feet of trenching that needs to be done, so there is material from that. I also need to create a fire break around the wetlands for a controlled burned, so that is another source of material.
My property was previously a tree farm and I have over a hundred holes where the trees were dug out, balled, and burlapped. I tried filling the holes with my Kubota L4330, but I made very little progress scraping off surrounding dirt and using that as fill. I've also tried loosening up dirt with...
I have a Kubota L4330. It is an outstanding machine, but I am getting tired of constantly twisting my back and neck for hours at a time. Is there a machine (not necessarily a tractor) that accepts *standard* 3-pt attachments in the front? If not, how big of job is it to put a 3-pt and PTO in a...
Has anyone seen (or have guesses of) depreciation curves related to used tractors? For example, used cars look something like this:
I assume with tractors the depreciation curve has less to do with the year and much more related to the hours. Is the life of a tractor (for resale/depreciation...
Is there a list of years/models and the major changes that were made? For example which years had the following:
Dual boom
Increased horsepower
Traction control
Independent suspension
4-wheel steering
I'm wondering what the oldest year is with most of the important features.
I live on 14 acres of ag-zoned land in suburban Chicago. The ToolCat is incredibly expensive, but I'm really attracted to the stability and general utility of the vehicle. It's known as a swiss army knife without being able to do anything particular well, which is just fine by me. I don't have...
