Still searching
Can a Hydro Ax with shearing head be used to push trees over with the root ball, rather than cutting them and then dealing with stump? I’m wondering how sturdy the shearing head is and whether it can be used to push and pull a tree instead of just cutting it.

You mean like a hydro-ax on a 40 ton excavator or a Skid Steer? These are 2 very different use cases.

No. Get a bucket that doesn’t cost 40 grand or more to push trees.

I mean a Hydro Ax 411 or 511. I’ve seen some for $15,000. These were made in the 90’s. They are ~150hp, 10-ton machines. They look like loaders, but with really big/wide tires.

I had a FECON 26k lbs do about 30 acres of mastication on my place (beetle kill pine). That machine could not push over a live tree...most of the time not even a dead one. If you tried it would just snap off where you pushed.

You have to remove some of the roots...and as previously posted that machine is not made for bulldozing. Do it at your own risk. You could easily get a tree to snap off and come back towards you on the machine.
