    Need a recommendation: log splitters

Several years ago, I too wanted a decent log splitter. The local farm type stores/lumber stores wanted $2k for a hydraulic splitter (no log lift). Splitter with log lift $8k+, order one and wait for it to be built. Kinetic splitter about $3k, what I chose, no lift but a 2 second cycle time...

    BX fuel filter

Learned my lesson a few years ago, left mower deck on, locked in the "TOP" position when the under carriage filter froze up. Can't lower deck if 3pt can't be raised up, very limited space for a heat gun (lucky to be within 100' of an outlet). Just added extra hoses to move my filter.

Propane tractors are/were gas tractors converted to run on propane. Diesels have greater low rpm torque, that's why gas engines fell out of the marketplace

    Front-End Loader Pulling with FEL?

I like the Danuser Intimidator. Thought it would be too much for Kubota B2650, went with Kubota STP25. Lowering bucket to the ground

When you lower loader, push harder, FEL should have a float position. Bucket may have a level indicator on it, if not top of bucket should be parallel to the bottom. Mostly just a learning curve using the bucket.

    Finally bought a small generator.

Can't make gas, diesel or propane, then solar could be a solution. A large solar gen is basically just a battery. You can recharge it with solar or gas gen. I am using ecoflow equipment (need more solar panels). Their Delta solar gens can start/stop their gas gen to recharge the battery...

Spreading just a tiny amount of road salt?

Sorry, must disagree. Sodium chloride also known as table salt is the cheapest and way less corrosive than Calcium. Salt good to about 17 degrees, magnesium blends -20 to -25, calcium down to -40. Calcium draws moisture from the air and controls dust by keeping it damp.

Get one designed for salt. Went cheap, got a dry material spreader. Had to add top to keep salt in hopper. Added cat food bags to sides to keep salt in drive . Have to use blower or compressed air to remove the excess after using. Every 2-3 years, dismantle, remove rust and blistered paint...

Rim guard or not? Why a ballast box instead of boxblade?

The drum holds 109 gal, when I bought it diesel was 4.50, cheap hydro 5.00. Didn't know if drum ever had water in it, oil seemed like a good idea. Yes, if the lawn needs mowed and more rain is in forecast, why not.

It's the 6 footer, depends on job, can pull it with BX, B or ford 4000. Has 40 gal of hydro oil in drum as rust retardant. Some wet early springs I pop BX into 4wd and mow thru standing water, yes it makes ruts. 3-5 days later I can roll lawn. When I use it neighbors get their 2wd turf tired...

Basic (stupid) questions about gas and diesel engines.

No, gravity feed engines don't need it. A low mounted tank uses a lift pump to get fuel to the injection (high pressure) pump. The low pressure return helps to purge air from fuel lines. Truckers in the winter will run a high idle so the warmer return fuel helps to prevent fuel gelling. Diesels...
