Gas string trimmer aka weed eater recommendations wanted

We have a palm tree farm in central Florida which calls for extensive use of trimmers and brush cutters. Our units get much more use than typical homeowners so we need units that perform consistently and reliably. Don’t look solely at purchase price. You can compare two units that have very...

    JD 5055 quick hitch

I bought Pats for my 4720. Many people love them. An issue I had was the units leaning inward quite a bit when lifting. A prior post here said they just didn’t use the adjustment bolts and seem to be OK with that. I never tried that. I just wasn’t comfortable with such lateral force on the arms...

    Pat's Easy Change trouble

I bought a set of Pats many years ago. The concept is nice but still requires hands on to use. I made my own spreader bar (does help) Still not a quick hitch. I finally did get an actual quick hitch, big difference. I did have to modify a couple implements but very well worth it. Pat has lived...

high pressure tree sprayer run on PTO

Always wondered why people like moss. They’re tree weeds. Left unchecked it kills the host tree.

    XD mower lift

I have one from HarborFreight. Only difference from MoJack is HF uses a hydraulic jack. With the time it takes to go from storage to use (all have same) I have ended up just using a wheeled floor jack. Much faster and lift height is plenty for all needs.

    Compact Tractor Grapple Build

Table area grinder storage you will like. I hate changing from grinder wheel to abrasive wheel to cut off wheel to flap sand discs so I have 3 or 4 grinders always set up. They take up a fair amount of work area.

    Water line question

I agree with the suggestions of larger diameter piping. I have irrigation covering 8 acres of palm trees. I ran 2” pipe for mains and first branch. What was originally run from well pump to house, stable and guest house was 1 1/4”. Flow test was quite different between. Both tested with 5hp...

first time painting - should I grind off the thin surface rust or just apply rust converter?

I like to use abrasive pad wheels on my grinder for surface rust as yours. Wipe with thinner, etc. . I like to use a red primer also. People have their own likings that have worked for them.

Also, if appearance is not a primary concern, use a roll on, spray on “cool coat” product. They work extremely well and have a long useful life.

    insulation in enclosed metal carport

Know this post is a while ago, perhaps to help someone down the road. Many adhesives are not compatible with foams. They disintegrate the foam. Read labels to insure compatibility. And yes, use closed cell foam.

    Grapple project OPEN SOURCE

What drives the I know better than all of you dissertation here. To caution the cost of building your own / one off project is worthy input but why continue to beat a dead horse? “It’s not worth it to do your own” , “just buy one from a manufacturer”. If Edison listened to this discourse, we...

    D140 Starting issue

    D140 Starting issue

Have D140 that has following issue. At times I turn key to lights on, nothing. Turn key to start, nothing. Other times lights on, or will crank & start. New ignition switch didn’t solve. Thought one of the safety switches was start issue but that shouldn’t affect lights? Does anyone have tech...

    Tree spade build

Hi everyone. I have a palm tree nursery and farm. Our trees have become to a size that our Dynamite Digger is far from the effecient way to be extracted. A backhoe is not really feasible due to the root structure of Palm trees. We really need to have a treespade. New units are outrageous and...

    JD 4720 Starter not operating

I have read many posts here and some are similar but not quite. I have a JD 4720Cab HST. Yesterday I had been mowing for about 30 min. (I love when the strawberry farmers plant and Dump what seems like millions of gallons of water to run-off on to my palm tree fields). I shut off the PTO and...

Quick Hitches  3 Pt. Quick Hitch Solution

I bought one of the infamous Quick Hitches about a year ago, but after not fitting any of my implements I returned it. The upper hook bracket protruded too far not letting the hook into the upper link or the hook would not adjust far enough up or down. More to come.

Plow procedure questions, FWJ and all

www.ntractorclub.com/forums/manuals/messages/164.htmlI need to level (smooth) an area of our property and was wanting to use a 3 bottom plow. All of the other areas I have done to this point has been with a disc after spraying, but it takes me many passes and it still seems to leave trash on...

The person who has this plow says it is an Allis-Chalmers 3 x 16". The pin on the left side has been broken off. You can see the 1" x 2" stub underneath. Where is "Pats" Quality Control?

I have always been the type of person to do my own projects due to the fact that I can't seem to find people who care about the quality of their work as I do. Many years ago I needed a customized trailer to haul ladders, equipment and vinyl siding materials. The prices that shops wanted to build...

    3 Share Plow

I am about to regrade (level) a few acres in my back property and had a question about using a plow. 2 years ago I did about 2 acres with a disc and box blade. gauge wheels on a box blade

I have seen a few projects here where people have built hydraulic controlled gauge wheels on a box blade. My question is how do you attatch the hub to the axle. I really don't want to use small wheels with a 5/8 hole. I don't know if these would stand up. If I use a 4 or 5 bolt hub, do you weld...
