Is thirty years too long to keep a lawn mower?

No! 30 year old equipment that is well maintained and has some sort of parts supply is not too old to keep. It might be too hard for some peoples pride and it “could” cause some customers to unnecessarily question a company’s image and/or success.

LS Tractor Won't Start After Hooking Up Bush Hog

I’d say that is typical of brush failure, unless your wife was also rocking the ignition back and forth. With a new tractor it would likely be a bad connection rather than worn brushes. Typically, brushes can be replaced if you can buy them. Keep us posted.

I've never replaced a dual stage clutch. Have you checked your pilot bearing for wear? This keeps the input shaft aligned and prevents side to side movement. I almost always use the foot throttle and power down when shifting, this reduces wear on the pilot and throw out bearings.

In 2002-04 I test drove several tractors in different sizes and decided a Branson 3520 was not too big. The smaller sizes I thought were too close to the capabilities of my 1971 12Hp Powerking. Also, 4x4 is a must.
  133. Zork

Is a subcompact under 25hp enough power?

Yes, 'for the most part' I think so. Stump grinding is hard on the machine and post hole digging will depend on your soil. I "believe" it is all open or all closed and our design should pull when energized. Or will push or pull in the opposite design of any spring tension. You could rotate the IP lever towards the seat and try starting and try the reverse if that doesn't work. Then once you see the movement...

Hard starting 2400H - lift pump failing?

Possibly. Check the throw of the lever as compared to the throw of the solenoid and go from there. How does it start if you run two or more GP cycles when it's cold? Could be air if it does this only on initial start up after sitting a while (depends on size of air leak, if applicable).
