Thanks for the rapid reply everyone. I want my equipment to last “forever” so it sounds like adding even a small amount of lubricants is very cheap insurance since I have no way to determine what is absent or already in purchased fuels.

When I was much younger I was a 'Hot Shot' but age has caught up to me so now I'm just a spectator...:giggle:

There is a shop about 40 miles South of where I live and that's all they did until about 2009 and then they started cleaning/baking those regeneration cannisters on diesel machinery and trucks and they were able to stay open for 20 or so years doing nothing but injector pumps, so I bet there is somebody up around your neck of the woods that does it.
The dealership I worked for had their own SCR element oven and it wasn't a cheap date either. They were doing contract work for everyone plus their own stuff. Like I said, never seen a pump on a Cat rebuilt or exchanged and I was there over 2 decades. Cooking cans is a pretty lucrative business but the rejection rate is pretty high as well. I did a lot of side work for them as I'm an accomplished TIG welder so I used to rebuild the all the inlet and outlet bungs on the One Boxes and all the fittings were supplied by the OEM's at no charge. I used to charge the dealership 175 bucks each for about 15 minutes of work. Whack the old ones off with the plasma cutter and TIG weld the new one's on, very little pre prep as well. Quick brushing with a stainless wire brush, clamp and TIG. Maybe a little smoothing with a whizzy wheel prior to but that was it. At one time I had about 10 one boxes waiting to be repaired. The changed the grade of stainless they fabbed them from and that job dried up.

No pumps now, it's all high pressure common rail injection, ECM controlled but the one boxes are still around along with the DEF injection and it's still issue prone. One of my hunting buddies is still the service manager there so I get to hear about all the grief. Of course Cat is out of the on road business sort of. Most of the Class 6-8 engines are now DEEC or Cummins or Vo-Mack. Like I said I think on here, I still have a 3406 NZ in a Star long nose day cab in the barn. Only turned up a tad however. 3406 with a 18 speed RR with 44 Eaton's out back on 4 bag Neway. I just tote grain for the local farmers to the elevator. Hobby truck and trailer.

Big thing with Cats was exhaust studs and spacer plates and the Accerts were basically junk and of course Cat tried the twin turbo deal and that was a bust as well. We were Cat, Cummins and DDEC certified. I could go on for pages about the ills of smog motors but I won't except to say the EPA ruined diesel engines and now they are working on tractors. Rudy Diesel would roll over in his grave if he was here today.

An old mechanic told me years ago that if you added MMO or ATF every other time that you filled your tractor up that you would never have to worry about rebuilding the injector pump, don't know if that is fact but it probably doesn't hurt by adding either of them for lubrication and he was a good diesel mechanic.
In my 1985, I add a quart of atf per 16/20 gallon tank every once in a while and I think the engine performance is noticeably much better- maybe because I think it works?

Willy, I never looked at the tailpipe on my diesel pickup truck but being a law biding citizen-farmer I do use on road diesel in it and like my previous post, I've never added anything to the fuel in it either.

and.... I do use off road in my tractors but the inside of their exhaust stacks are all sooty black anyway because they do smoke when worked and none are emissions compliant anyway.
Mine don't smoke and the pipe is black.

I use this for my 2000 F250 with 7.3. Folks on the Ford Diesel sites swear by it, as do I. Been using it for years with no issues. I use 1oz per gallon and mix it with Diesel Kleen

I miss the deep fried clam dinners....
HoJo's 26 flavors? It was 28, I'm sure. Mr. Johnson himself was the company's quality inspector. Nobody knew what he looked like, and he would show up randomly at his restaurants, probably to order some of his famous fried clams. Made his own travel plans, too, so there was no leaked info from his staff.

I have the same concerns with my older Mitsubishi 180D. I tried adding Marvel Mystery Oil but the engine was very hard to start, especially when cold. Almost wore down the battery.

What can I add to older (1980’s) Diesel tractor to add lubricity to the fuel.
Have been told that Automobile Transmission Fluid or Two Cycle Oil (used in two cycle engines) can be used but I do not know at what ratio. (How much per gallon of diesel fuel?) Other substitutes?
I use TWC3 motor boat 2 cycle oil at 1 oz. per gallon. for my older Dodge diesel
