07 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD tow capability?

I'll have to agree if you tow often the diesel is the answer;but if you're a weekend tower like myself and don't need the 15 qt. oil changes along with the fuel filter changes et. al. go with a healthy gas job. Here in the NorthEast diesel is more expensive than 87 octane gas:mad: and if I can get the same mileage empty and more than likely a little less towing then you know what I'm going to do:D

I have an '02 3/4 Ton Suburban with the 6.0L. It is plenty of engine for pulling our 5,500 pound travel trailer in Ohio where I live. We pull the camper through Pa. to Maryland once a year for vacation. The thing I have noticed that on the longer grades the transmission temperature willl increase and stay 200+ longer than the radiator. I upgraded the transmission cooler with a larger one from B&M, and it still could be better. If I were to pull a 10000 pound trailer any distance I would go to the style of transmission cooler with the electric fans as a minimum. It get's 14/15 mpg highway without the trailer, and 8-10 pulling it.

I'm not as excited abot the 500hp, as torque in the 1250+ftlb range :D

Our first out Engine has an 8.9L Cummins. It is 350hp, but torque is through the roof.

Bragging rights start when GM puts a 500 HP Cat in a light duty truck. Call me when they come in. :D

GM states this truck(gas) will tow 13000 lbs. has any owner put this to the test?? I presently tow a 10k toy hauler with a 02 Ford 7.3 diesel. My warranty has just expired and was thinking of replacing my diesel with this gas. Am I wrong????? Thanks

i have an 07 new body with a 6.0 and the "max" towing package. i pull around a 18' car hauler with a zd326 mower on it (1800 lbs) almost everyday. i also pull my b3030 tlb on it about 5k lbs maybe.
if you are pulling 10k very often or on long trips i would go with the d-max. i get an average of 9mpg when towing with my 6.0. i do have all the power i could possibly need with my load but the springs seem pretty week and i get alot of bounce on these fine oklahoma roads. my old 3/4 6.0 felt alot better when towing then the new one, heck my denali felt even better than this one.

Matt, et.al.,

To me, if I were looking to tow 10,000 pounds ever I would strongly look at a diesel. I really like the Tundra among the gasoline trucks right now. It has a lot of power and can handle a load fine and pulls well. But, even it would not enjoy heavy loads. I have pulled right at my 13,000 limit with my new 2008 250 with the 6.4L and it pulls great. It HANDLES the weight well, as I am sure a 2500 level truck would from Dodge or GM. It accelerates well and maintains it speed well over hills, etc. As much as I hate to say it, even with diesel not being as good an economic option right now, it is still better than gas for pulling. If you are pulling heavy a lot, going diesel is not a bad decision, even still.

Geez Dan, must be nice to be so rich now that you can afford a brand new '07 truck to go along with all them expensive orange toys! :D But the real reason I'm writing is to tell you that my '06 seems to be doing about the same as your '07. Same low gas mileage while towing and it bounces around an awful lot while towing... seems very unsure of itself and is quite uncomfortable to drive. Seems like the trailer is driving the truck rather than the other way around. I thought it was just me, but your description maybe says otherwise. I'm going to work on the suspension and alignment a bit and see if I can calm it down. Might even reinstall my ballast box and keep it half-loaded for added stability.

I'm also wondering if the front Timbrens I put in for plowing need to come out for summertime towing.

What would the price be for that? Let's see...right now it's $8200 extra for a Durmaxx/Allison combo. Same truck with a CAT engine...at least $25,000 or more for that option; assuming they would ever have that combo.
I'll take it.

well considering gm just sold the commercial and millitary side of allison trans for 5.8 billion, gm medium duty is for sale right now, and they sold what they own in isuzu this year, the future truck is any ones guess. CAT is to big to bow down to gm, but building a small v8 for them might not be out of the question in the future when the d-max becomes obsolete.

Based on what was discussed here, in all good fun, I was thinking and calculating..... For the price of a truck, say $36K (with the gasser standard) and no $7500 optional increase, that still leaves a man or woman with a $36K truck. I am one my third on in 7 years. I was hoping to have had the 2001 last me for 15 years (as did the last 87 model gasser did).

All said, 36 + 25 (for the Cat) = $61K .....and the stipulation to all of this is longevity and medium to heavy duty use, relative to these light duty Duramax, PowerStroke, Cummins..... Face it, they are all light duty and disappoint folks upon failure on lack of performance, because one's expectations of the investment is high (myself included, as stated here). I have worked this 2500HD to its limit and still want more.

With that being the point, I'd pay $61K for a heavy duty Cat 500 HP to last me 15 years. I'd come out much ahead.

Three of them up to now at avg 42K = $126K. Half of what the Option Cat 500 at $25,000...

Like I said, I'll take it and not gripe about it one bit... As a matter of preference, send me two... :D

Thanks for the auction... Now go make me a saMMich and deliver me my truck with the 500 Cat... :D
