Kubota B2910
I stopped at the auto parts store to buy some 10-30 oil for my B2910. They had a number of brands of oil but they were all 15-40. Is there any problem running the 15-40 instead of the 10-30? Thanks.

Your Operator's Manual should list the correct oil viscosities for a temperature range. It should be as a list or in chart format.

For my machine and temperature range, the most applicable oil is 15W-40. Just make sure you get something rated for diesels.

David, the 15W-40 is what I used. Like Roy said, you want an oil rated for diesels. I think Kubota is just a little behind on updating their manuals.

Bird and Roy,
The oil is rated for diesil. My manual shows a range of 10-40. I did use the 15-40.

I always ran 15-40 in my other diesels, but it was very thick in the winter. In fact, after running for an hour or so it was still thick. It is not easy to find 10-30 weight oil rated for diesel service (the "C" class) but that is what this 4610 Kubota calls for. After thinking about it for a while, I do not think I was doing my engine any favors running 15-40, since I was running for short (a couple hours) periods in cool to very cold conditions. The 10-30 makes more sense for me in this climate and I feel the engine is getting better lubrication with the thinner oil. If I lived in the south or ran hell for leather in a commercial useage, the 15-40 would be the ticket. The 10-30 oil I use is Chevron Delo 400, and I have to order it from the local jobber since it is not commonly available (but you will find Delo 400 15-40 almost anywhere, and if that is the weight you want, it is an excellent oil)

Isn't Mobil's I's 10-30 synthetic C rated for diesel engines? I know it says it is o.k. for diesel engines on the label.

Yes, Mobil One has a CF rating and has a 10-30 weight. My BX manual calls for 10-30 for most conditions so why not go with a synthetic after the break in 50 hour service?

I will change the oil again in the late Fall and put the 10-30 in for winter use. In the meantime, I'll keep my eyes open for a supplier.

I've asked this question to every mechanic, farmer and 2 kubota dealers and they tell me to use what the manual for my 7500 says - 10w-30 for all temps, and not to use synthetic until the 150 hour mark. Mobil 1 is the synthetic I will be using. Until then I use the Kubota 10w-30 and I can get it for $2.00 a quart at my local dealer.
