Unless you have some specific limitations, may I suggest you consider only brands / models that are wider. You'll be surprised at how many of the machines in this category are only 44" + / - wide. Too narrow and tippy for some chores at some locations.

Why compromise on safety, look for 50" - 55" + / - machines. Much more stable and no more money than the little narrow models.

I have a long, narrow, steep lot. We have decks, trees and slopes to contend with. 50" + tractors are just simple too big. Although you have sound logic.

Buy a utility trailer able to carry a ton. Utility trailers are relatively inexpensive and just two uses carrying the tractor covers the cost at $450 a throw your dealer wanted you to pay.

With the trailer, you are now free. If you really don't want to do any maintenance yourself, swing by your local auto repair shop and ask your mechanic if he wouldn't mind doing the regular service.

With this plan in place you are now free to shop the far side of the moon.

My General feeling is that most of these tractors are bullet proof as far as running gear. My biggest fear is not of the engine blowing up ect. I cab also drain oil as good as anyone else too so that is not an issue for me.

You really like the Massey, why? It looks to be the same as the the john deere. no?

He might have been in the middle of a deal with a customer. If you were sitting in front of him finalizing a deal, you wouldn't want him to get on a 10 minute telephone sales conversation either.

If his price is more expensive than anyone else, then either he was just throwing a high price at you and blowing you off, or you were pricing a lot higher capacity tractor than the other brands you priced. I'm a Kubota and Kioti fan, but LS builds a great tractor and, typically, you can buy an equivalent LS for less money than Kubota, Deere or Massey, and usually just a little bit under Kioti.

When I looked into sub-compact tractors the Massey was the best of them. The 1000 series Deere were not rugged enough for my intended uses and I was comparing to 2000 series Deer, which were more expensive than the Massey.

Keep your eyes open for deals from Kubota - around here they have several rebates and offers. When I bought our little BX it was less than any other "major" brand and very very close to the less popular ones. I just personally like the reliably I have had in the past with Kubota, the ease of getting any part or accessory and the real world capabilities.
Nothing wrong with the others- just my experience.

He's either full of BS or he's selling another brand with better profit margins. I'm here to tell you for a fact that LS will be less expensive than any other brand and will be a larger machine with WAY better specs

I bought a brand new J2023 at the beginning of last year. I paid $12,200 for my machine, which included the front loader. Not even the smaller, lower spec SCUTs from JD, Kubota, and Massey were even with $1000 of that price. Tell you what, you call Magee Equipment in Poplar Bluff, MO and ask for Doug Jackson. Ask for a quote on a J2023 and you'll see for yourself. I'll even send you a photo of my receipt. I still have it in my owners manual.

LS is not a no-name, expensive brand. LS has been making the Boomer Series for New Holland for many years. Is New Holland a no-name brand? Well anyone owning a New Holland Boomer is actually owning a LS with different decals. I suggest doing a little more research before making such ignorant (used in the technical sense) comments. Or better yet, listen a little closer to those of us who own LS tractors since we have direct, firsthand experience.

+2 on the Massey, If I was to buy a sub compact that would be it. Compare the hydraulics too. Massey is better.
