Maybe english is not his first language -- that can often make someone come across the wrong way. I agree, pics would help clear up things.

Then dealer drop off tractor . The mower did not auto connect. Please do not reply if you do not own 1023 or 1026 . It's not set up or user. The face it . Over price junk

Yes by all means keep repeating the same mantra and you are bound to get some helpful suggestions. That reminds me... been a while since I watched Forrest Gump.

I recently adjusted my 60d deck on my 1026r. I then noticed it didn't want to connect after the adjustment. I had to adjust the stop bolt on the mid pto so it would connect again. Maybe this will help.

From everything I can tell, this IS a set-up issue. If the OP has an AutoConnect mower with Independent Lift, there are still two latches that need to be closed after driving over the deck. If everything is not set-up correctly those two latches (or sometimes just one of them) cannot be closed / latched. The reason I wanted your S/N is so that I could contact the Area Service Manager on your behalf as this seems to be a DEALER issue NOT a DEERE issue. Again - I am basing that statement on what I can tell from the posts.
A - Your dealer should have asked you how you were planning on using the equipment and sold you the correct set-up - even if they had to wait to get a mechanical lift system. You have 3 main choices: 54D or 60D deck, Mechanical or Independent Lift and Manual or AutoConnect PTO. Any of these options will work with any of the others. Want 54D with AutoConnect but Mechanical Lift? Not a problem. 60D with Independent Lift and Manual? Again, no problem. I am thinking that the dealer did not ask these questions and sold the OP what they had available or what was close to coming in.
B - Incorrect installation / adjustment will cause the problems the OP is experiencing. In a case like this the Dealer should NOT charge for pick-up and delivery or at home service. If it was a regular warranty issue then pick-up/at home is not included in the warranty although many dealers include it as part of thier sales process. New paint will not cause the issues I believe he is having.

HI bleengreen.Yes you are right.when drive over mower it will not latch. You need to get on your hands and knees and pull and fight to get it latched on both side on deck. Some times need to go back and forth the three to four times on both sides of deck to latch it.Also when you go to take off deck its very hard to unlatch. So hard you need to shake deck and pull all you strength to get it to unlatch. When dealer drop it off he told me 54 in decks where having latching problem but would get better with time.I sould of told him but it back on dealer and give me money back.As you know if it will not latch from day one it might never work.I did get 54d with Independent Lift and AutoConnect PTO.I was never told you needed to hook up hose when wanted mower to go up and down.If so I would of never got Independent Lift.bleengreen can you tell me the parts and how much the are and how to change it to Mechanical lift.
thanks for your help

The only reason you are having a latching problem is because your dealer did not set-up the machine properly. They should have never delivered it without it working properly - and to blame it on paint and to say 'it will get better with time" is complete and utter horses%*t.

Call your dealer immediately and ask to speak to the owner. Explain that you are very unhappy with the machine and that you should not have to pay for transportation as this is not a warranty issue but a dealer setup issue. If they continue to tell you that you must pay for transportation I would ask to have the Deere TSM contact you directly.

In regards to Independent vs. Mechanical Lift simply state that the Independent Lift was not explained to you and that you were given no choice as to the Mechanical Lift. I believe they should change it to Mechanical Lift at no charge to you - especially with the issues you are having. The Mechanical Lift is lesser priced to begin with and they will then have the Independent Lift to install on another machine.

just one honest question. He mentions that the video does not show all the steps? is that true? I've always wondered if that was the case, seems you should need raise the scalp wheels and stuff like you do on most other drive overs.

There are 4 quick locks on the 4 gauge wheels. One "flick" of your hand releases the wheel - it should take all of 1 minute to walk around the machine and release the gauge wheels. This allows the deck to go all the way down to the ground as the gauge wheels are no longer locked. Get on the machine, lower the deck all the way. Choose low gear (and possibly 4WD depending on surface) and back off the mower. That is it.

I believe you need to follow the steps outlined here: 1 series mower setup and adjustment

This is the process your DEALER should have followed. It seems as though many DEALERS are not going through the proper setup. It is the DEALERS fault. DEERE has outlined everything the DEALERS should do in your manual, but the DEALER SHOULD pick up your tractor PROPERLY set it up as they were SUPPOSED TO in the first place! This is NOT a DEERE issue, but a DEALER issue. Many people are having the same issue with their DEALER as you are, most DEALERS have taken care of their customers and got their tractor setup properly and back to them FREE as they were supposed to do originally!
