$10K Question ...... Literally!

Holy smokes that is a big trailer for a 1/2 ton truck. How bad did it sag without the air bags?

It dropped down pretty good, but when I added the air bags it level out real well. Yeah it was alot of trailer for that pick-up but I would not pull it very far and took it easy and made sure I had a good brake control. I now have a 2006 Chevy 2500 HD and it handles it very well and I am more comfortable with this set up.

Thanks for info, I don't need to do anything but to me if GM went to all the expense to install sensor, wiring, etc, in the half ton trucks why not just spend another $8 to $10 and install the trans temp gauge...on a $35 grand truck what's another ten bucks? Makes me wonder.

It's what is called marketing. The salesman's lips go like this. "...and if you upgrade to the premium gauge package for only $xxx.00 you also get the transmission temperature gauge which is an absolute necessity if you ever plan to tow". Let's see. For $10 cost they get $xxx.00. What a deal!

I didn't buy the truck new, so I'm not sure the tran temp gauge was even an option on the 1/2 ton. Maybe it was part of a heavy duty tow package. Not sure.

Exactly. You have to get the sunroof, 20 chrome wheels, or whatever to get the $50.00 option you want. All the auto makers are doing it with the imports being the worst. I remember when I bought my 93 F150 I got exactly what I wanted right down to the deletion of the 4x4 stickers and carpet while getting all the other goodies I wanted.

They do now. It's tied into the odometer. When I got my '07 I asked the service manager how hot you should let it get before shutting the truck down... after asking around for about 10 minutes he came back with "we don't know, but a warning light will come on.

Transmissions are the only thing I've never been able to keep in a truck. Sometimes they might be victims of abuse  but too many times I've lost them because the pump failed.

They should have started putting these in when they started putting temp guages in engines. ;)

Not for '99 at least. I orded and speced my truck the way I wanted. It is a '99 1500 with every available option except the snow plow prep package. Tranny temp gauge wasn't an option. I've been looking around for a "cheap" cluster that includes the gauge. My odometer isn't lighting all of the time, so I figure if I'm going to fix it, might as well get the tranny temp gauge - especially w/ towing our camper - 36' Jayco, weighs in at almost 10k when loaded.
