This thread reminded me The GT235E variant, built in 2002 and 2003,(JD) (garden tractor) offered an on-board generator system that provided continuous 1000 Watt power at 120 volts. Big difference though from 1 kw to 10kw .

Never seen anything like that before. Could be great for running the fridge and freezer.

I thought they really had something there. I was surprised to see they gave up on it so fast.

Back in the day, Wheel Horse had a generator option, I believe they sold a 3K and a 5K.

It went right on the front, using their quick disconnect just like all the other accessories they sold for their tractors, using the tractor engine to power it.

I've thought about copying their system and make one up for one of my WH's, but I really don't need one...

I have one of those weird 12 volt motors in line with a (120V) alternator out in the barn that someone gave me. No worry about transistors popping, just the wires feeding it melting. I think they still make them.

Checking and monitoring your voltage is fine,
but I would expect that it has a voltage adjustment on the generator.
Frequency is going to be a good indication of stability under a varying load,
it can be monitored by many multi-meters or a Kill A Watt meter,
I find the Kill A Watt devices to be very handy.

I know it is very basic. But an Engine running at 3600 will make twice the HP as running at 1800. It's why they sell all these screaming generators as it directly impacts price, and why in effect you are paying for twice the engine you could get by with when buying an 1800 rpm set. Of course, twice the engine also means twice the life.

Heck, I have to gear down my 2000 rpm front PTO on my lawn mower to run a 540 PTO alternator. I/you could run an 1800 rpm unit direct with a front mower tractor.PIC00016.JPG

So, you just added another gearbox? Take the PTO off the mower, and on to that one?

How many Engine RPMS to get your 60HZ?
