Sounds like your dealer is not very responsive on the parts/Maintenance side of things... I thought the only thing you have changed so far is the fuel filter, correct?

yes - so they said solenoid. if not that then fuel pump. that is a cheaper part than the solenoid. so we'll see. the enmail was quite nasty from the dealer guy. and mahindra never called back all day either. so (shakes head in disgust) Thanks for your concern.

i guess so but the parts guy at blls called it a different solenoid. when i aksed about etr. sorry i have no more info. my engine fires up but quits immediately after when key returns to normal. so maybe that is the part that is shot.

The Max models have had issues with wiring to a solenoid in the fuel system, which will cause the engine to quit. Moisture gets trapped in the plug and then shorts out the solenoid. Happened to my neighbor's Max and has happened to 4-5 people here on TBN too. Tractor will start and then die after you let go of the key. You may want to read some of the threads.

I don't even own a Mahindra but am aware of the problem because it affected my neighbor's Max.

From those threads - the second one has this post below.. if all the Max are the same, I would try this "tapping" method mentioned and see if you can get it running and at least back to the house while you wait on the part (its sorta the same principle as tapping the starter on your car when its going bad!)...

Re: Mahindra Max 28 electrical
I know this and old thread, but for those who would like a little more info here it is. There have been a lot of reports of the 3 wire connector from the fuel shutoff solenoid filling with moisture (not sure how/why), drying the connector often fixes the problem. If there is a problem with the solenoid itself here is what happens, one wire is ground, one wire is hot when the key is in the 'run' position and one wire is hot in the 'start' position. When the solenoid dies you loose the 'run' circuit, so when you release the key from 'start' you loose power to the solenoid (needs power to keep the plunger retracted allowing fuel to flow). If the tractor dies when you release the key it is your fuel shutoff solenoid, if 'tapping' the solenoid doesn't work it will need to be replaced. The solenoid is a large cylinder that threads into the back of the injector pump on the right side of the engine (has a large set nut to hold it in place), the connector is often tucked in close to the firewall and may take a bit to find it.

thanks guys. i will reread the threads again tomorrow when i finish work. have a lot of stuff to do before storms the next 2 1/2 days. i really appreciate the info greatly. i know enough to be dangerous with engine work. a weak spot for me. i am hoping that this is the part and the fix. hate to be checking into other stuff and then other stuff.... by then better to have the dealer have a look see. but then the dealer has not been too swift as stated above.

:)))

I’m not sure if anyone brought this up but check your ETR fuel shutoff solenoid. I have a thread posted on this with a YouTube video. The dang “weather proof” connector is not weather proof and has horrible corrosion thus shorting out the solenoid. Mine had a similar symptom. You need to physically inspect the connector and if you see ANY corrosion, then it’s probably that. Cleaning it is probably not going to fix it.

I live a long ways from my dealership to so I buy things from Bills tractor filter kits and small parts. They have always shipped quick and fair. Good luck and hope you are up and going soon.

well got the solenoid in from bill's yesterday. I was hesitant to do this myself but with a bit of work and some swear words and had to hustle an open end wrnch from a friend- it seems to work. started 2x and also moved it to its parking place. there was a lot of water int the electrical connection. i put some electrical tape arpound the connection. maybe it will help a bit. checked for leaks and seems ok - but will check it a few days later. so the solenoid was the issue, so far knock on wood it is fixed. thanks to everyone for their help.
