We need to hear back from Joe but maybe he can't change the drive mount. So engine repair is the best option.

Would not suprize me one bit that the 13hp HF and a 12-13hp Honda have exactly same form factor as the B&S.... Found that out when putting the HF 6.5 hp on log splitter.... Even bolt up holes for hydraulic pump adapter were SAE threads...

I've had great luck with ereplacementparts dot com for Honda OEM parts, one of the few retailers that seems to offer Honda online. They have a B &S Section on their site.

Probably going to find you can buy a HF (made in China) engine complete cheaper than repair parts for your B&S....
I know it was cheaper to go with the HF 6.5 HP engine to replace the 5 hp B&S engine on my log splitter than buy needed parts to get B&S running...
And yes I hate sending my money to China but....

But you can buy two or maybe three HF motors with what one Honda or B&S costs....
40-50 hours on log splitter motor (HF Predator) and it does no smoke or use oil...

sea2summit, I have also used ereplacement parts for a lot of things also but I'm trying to source a vertical shaft replacement engine for one of my power washers and the briggs engine that they offer on their site has been on back order for quite some time now (like a lot of other items people want to buy). Probably still floating on a ship somewhere! I still wait but wonder if maybe I should just forget about it.

Can anyone tell me where I can purchase complete good quality rebuild kits for my Briggs & Stratton 12 hp engine? I was hoping to find one that offers oversize piston and rings also. Any help appreciated. Thanks, Joe

There's an enjoyment in rebuilding an engine that is often missed these days when everything is about cost. I've got an old cast iron 12 hp Briggs that has already outlasted half a dozen cheaper motors. It probably always will.

So I hope you do find those parts and continue posting about the rebuild.

One hint is that when you do find a site that carries the parts you need, I think you'll find that it is easier to find OEM and better quality parts if you order them part by part individually rather than as a kit. Gaskets may come as a kit, and maybe there is a valve and guide kit or carb kit... but for pistons, rods, bearings, and such you are generally better served by ordering the exact part you want individually.

Assume this is one of the vintage B&S 12s from the 80s/90s? If so consider adding a a replacement oil slinger to your search/shopping list. Whatever nylon/acetal//et al B&S used wasn't designed for a 30 year life span. They erode away to the point some become more oil frothers than slingers. Iron lined cylinders?

My recommendation anyway would be to repower it with a HF as the whole unit isn't worth much to begin with. Cheaper would be easier and better.
